AREA

•Miller, Warren Eddy, age 76, lifetime resident of North East, Pennsylvania, died July 23, 2008 at Sarah Reed Retirement Home in Erie. He was born on March 8, 1932 in North East to the late Samuel Dexter and Elizabeth Smith Miller. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Air Force. He graduated from Brockport State Teachers College where he earned a degree in secondary education. Warren was a vice principal at Canandaigua Academy High School for four years and a math teacher at Greece Central High School in Greece, for several years. He was a mem-ber of North East American Legion Post 105 and an honorary member of the Creacent Hose Company. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by a sister Mary Mosconi. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Lena DeBello Miller whom he married June 27, 1959; children Cheryl Fisher and husband William of Millcreek, Wayne Eddy Miller of North East, John Warren Miller of North East and Leanne Miller and Jerome Yankevich of North East; a brother Michael M. Miller and wife Phyllis of South Carolina; a sister-in-law Victoria DiBello of Holley; an aunt Marjorie Casperson of North East; grandsons Daniel Scott Fisher and Samuel Jerome Yankevich; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services were held July 27 in North East, Pennsylvania. Interment, North East Cemetery. Contributions can be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 West 8th Street, Erie, Pennsylvania or Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center, 227 West 22nd, Erie, Pennsylvania in his memory.


BROCKPORT

•Downey, Ruth Irene, age 88, died in Brockport. She attended Walworth High and Geneseo Normal School. She taught in Painted Post, NY where she met her husband, Hall; and also served in the Army Air Force. Ruth worked at the Mary Cariola Children's Center as a volunteer, teacher's aide, and the coordinator of transportation. She is predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Louise Dayton; her husband Hall; sister Edith; brother Carl; and a son Tom. She is survived by her son, Ed; Tom's wife, Elizabeth; four grandchildren, Hall, Seth, Ahren, John; four great grandchildren, Jacob, Emma, Katie and Riley.

A Memorial Service was held July 28 at the Merrill-Grinnell Funeral Home, Holley. Interment will be in Whitehaven Cemetery at a later date.


•Howard, Clara, died July 24, 2008 at the age of 96. Clara was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and was very active in the Home Bureau. She is predeceased by her husband William Howard and their daughter Rose Marie. She is survived by her brother Edward Carlo; sister Sadie (William) Carlo Monacell; granddaughter Suzanne (Joseph) Ford Salvatore and great granddaughter Madison. She is also survived by her special friend and caregiver Norma Jean Robinson; many nieces and nephews, and a great many others who loved her dearly and whom she loved.

A Memorial Service will be held at Merrill-Grinnell Funeral Home, 12 Ingersoll Street, Albion on Wednesday, August 6 at 10 a.m. Private interment. Donations can be made in her memory to Disciples United Methodist Church, 4410 Holley-Byron Road, Holley 14470.


CHURCHVILLE

•Laurini, Lorin A., Suddenly, July 26, 2008 at age 67. He was predeceased by his parents, Guy and Dora Laurini; and his wife, Kathy Laurini. He is survived by his loving wife, Judith A. Laurini; daughter Hope Laurini of Washington; son, Lorin (Ann) of Rochester; step-son, Michael Naylor of Nevada; sister, Diana (Ettore) Ranalletta; aunt, Agnes (Frank) Ciminelli; his four granddaughters; one great granddaughter; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Service was held August 1 at Riga Congregational UCC, Churchville. Contributions can be made to Churchville Fire Department, Hillsdale Preparatory Children's Fund, 160 Mechanic Street, Hillsdale, Michigan 49242 or Churchville Lions Club, "Medical Closet" in his memory.


•Pershing, George J., July 18, 2008 at age 67. He was predeceased by his siblings, John, William, Doris and Marion. He is survived by his wife Ruby Lewis; son, Richard Lewis; daughter, Cindy Proesch; granddaughter, Joscelyn Proesch; sister, Catherine Czapp; sister-in-law, Ann Pershing; several nieces and nephews. George was a Coast Guard Vietnam Veteran.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 9 at 2 p.m. at Union Congregational UCC, 14 North Main Street, Churchville. Interment, will be held privately. Contributions can be made to Union Congregational UCC or Churchville Fire Department in his memory.


CLARENDON

•Beaver, Mary J. (Cook), On July 25, 2008. Predeceased by husbands Donald D. Cook and Earl H. Beaver; sons, Daniel and David Cook and son-in-law Daniel Kepler. Survived by her children Deborah (Richard) Herzog, Donald Cook, Donna Kepler, and daughter-in-law Cheryl Cook; stepchildren, William Beaver, Carl (Ann) Beaver, Rosie (Peter) Titus; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Bernard (Jean) Miller and Avery (Mary) Miller; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Interment Service was held July 28 at Riverside Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or Orleans County Hospice in her memory.


•East, James E. II, "The Greek Gawd," age 23, died suddenly July 26, 2008 as a result of a motor vehicle accident. He is survived by his parents, Daniel and Susan Vickers; his sister Denine Vickers, Amanda (Gordon) Stearns, Christina Vickers; his brothers, Steven, Daniel (Samantha), and Matthew Vickers; as well as grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, niece, Lily, nephew Danny and many friends.

A Service of Remembrance was held July 29 at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Home, Inc. Holley. Interment at the convenience of the family.


GREECE

•French, Edna (McAllister), July 23, 2008, age 89. Predeceased by her husband, Harry W. French, who died July 21, 1991, just 3 days prior to their 46th Wedding Anniversary. She is survived by her children, Gail Beaty, Robert French, Richard (Jackie) French, Nancy (Rob) Ruffner and Suzie (Gary) Heifer; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; her brother, Richard (Carol) McAllister; sister-in-law, Caroline French; one aunt; several cousins and many nieces and nephews. Edna was a WAC during WWII and a retiree of Present Company.

Funeral Services were held July 28 at the Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home, Inc., Hilton. Interment, Parma Union Cemetery. Contributions can be made to Lakeside Foundation, 156 West Avenue, Brockport 14420 in her memory.


HILTON

•Bauernfeind, Anna E., Age 81, July 23, 2008. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years David Bauernfeind; their children Donna (Jim) Schiebel, John (Ellen) Bauernfeind. She also leaves her sister Irene (August) Andersen. Anna had been a 50 year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cherry Valley and the Springfield Grange.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Cherry Valley, New York. Inurnment will take place in Bauernfeind Cemetery, Callicoon, New York.


•Castle, Opal P. "Peyt," July 25, 2008, age 84. She is survived by her children, Marsha Wilkinson, Don P. Castle, Barbara Carris and Bruce (Terry) Castle; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews.

Private interment, Parma Union Cemetery. Contributions can be made to Hilton Ambulance Corps in her memory.


•VerHulst, Elizabeth L. "Missy," July 24, 2008. Survived by her daughters, Ellen VerHulst and Deb (Rob) VerHulst-Norris; son, Steven; grandchildren, Elizabeth Nicholls and Genevieve Norris; brother-in-law, Joseph (Mary) VerHulst; several nieces and nephews.

HOLLEY

•Kirk, John M., age 49, died July 25, 2008 in Rochester General Hospital following a short illness. He was born August 3, 1958 in the Bronx and had lived in this area most of his life. John had worked as a self-employed contractor specializing in roofing and siding. Mr. Kirk was predeceased by his grandparents: George and Eufaula (Waterman) Kirk, his parents Robert and Lois (Isenbeck) Kirk, his aunt Isabelle Winfield, uncle Leal Kirk, and brothers: Richard and Steven Kirk. He is survived by his wife of 16 years Lilly; daughters: Amy (Teddy II) Mattison, Rebecca Goodrich; sons: Brian (Amy) Mortimer) Goodrich, Matthew Kirk, David (Jamie) Orians; brothers: Daniel, Eric, David; sisters: Elsie Kirk, Robin Hyziek; uncle: Hank (Christine) Kirk; aunts: Helen (Bill) Close, Eulalia Watts; and 13 grandchildren: Teddy III, Kryten, Kolton, Nick, Autumn, Marina, Marah, Xavier, Isabella, Landen, Tyler, Nicole, and Jordan.

Funeral Services were held July 29 at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., Holley. Interment at the convenience of the family. Contributions can be made to a charity of one's choice in his memory.


OGDEN

•Gustke, Dorothy M., July 24, 2008. Predeceased by her husband Theodore (Teddy) Gustke, daughter Sandra Zornow and granddaughter Jeannie Marie Gustke. Survived by her children John (Loretta) Gustke and Judith Vanderpool; grandchildren George (Lorie Statt) Gustke, Robin (Norman) Rand, Scott (Laurie Statt) Gustke, Theodore Zornow (Azeez), Richard Bondi, SueAnn (Tom) Patane, Tina Vanderpool (Mike Cody), Jamie Bliss and Michelle (Nick) Tomaszewski; 21 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy and her husband ran the Lone Elm Restaurant on Buffalo Road for many years.

SPENCERPORT

•O'Brien, Timothy John Sr., July 2, 2008 in Denver, Colorado at age 42. He is survived by his father John F. (Suzanne) O'Brien; his mother Bonnie Jean (Emler) O'Brien; his children Nicole, Timothy Jr. and son, Anthony, and Sara O'Brien; stepdaughter Tania and her mother Patricia Sapinsky; his sister Kimberly Ann O'Brien; father-in-law and mother-in-law Russell and Diane Cannito; business partner and friend Mark Velder.

A Memorial Mass was said August 2 at St. John's Church, Spencerport.


•Schulmerich, Frances J., July 24, 2008 at age 84. She was predeceased by her husband Herbert L. Schulmerich Sr., granddaughter Kathleen. She is survived by her sons, Herbert L. (Holly) Schulmerich Jr. of Florida and Dennis B. (Laurie) Schulmerich of Chili; grandchildren, Debra (Steve) Montanaro, Matthew (Michelle) Schulmerich, Peter Schulmerich and Linda Schulmerich; great-grandchildren, Allison Schulmerich, Kathleen and Isabella Montanaro, Ashley Schulmerich; brother, William (Margaret) O'Brien; several nieces and nephews. Frances was a charter member of the Spencerport Volunteer Ambulance and volunteered at Park Ridge Hospital for many years.

A Memorial Mass will be said Saturday, August 9, 2008 at St. Christopher's Church, 3350 Union Street, North Chili. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Contributions can be made to Ogden Senior Center or Ferris Goodridge American Legion Post #330 in her memory.
