AREA

•Allen, Nekl B., Staff Sgt., U.S. Army, in Afghanistan, Wardak Province; September 12, 2009, at the age of 29. Nekl was member of the US Army, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Ft. Drum, NY. He was killed in Afghanistan when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an IED (improvised-explosive device) and small arms fire. Nekl served as an infantryman with the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, which deployed in January. Staff Sgt. Allen is survived by his wife, Amy (Meehan) Allen formerly of Spencerport. His beloved children, Christopher age 10, Michael age 7, and Grace age 4; his parents, Daniel and Debra Allen of Gates; and sister, Rana Allen of Gates. He was a graduate of Churchville-Chili High School class of 1999. He joined the US Army in May 2002 and arrived at Ft. Drum in April 2008. This was Nekl’s 3rd overseas deployment. He was previously deployed twice to Iraq. Staff Sgt. Allen had received more than 30 awards and decorations including the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and Air Assault Badge.

A Memorial Service was held at the Spencerport Bible Church on September 22. Donations in his memory can be made to benefit Staff Sgt. Allen’s children. Checks payable to Spencerport Bible Church, 1948 North Union Street, Spencerport, NY 14559; note that it is for Sgt. Allen’s children’s fund.


BROCKPORT

•Menear, Wilford “Bill” W. Jr., On September 21, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; his children Michael (Jenna), Brad (Linda); two grandchildren Amber and Braden; his brothers Joe (Shirley), Robert; sister Linda; several nieces and nephews. Bill was a 38-year veteran of the Brockport Fire Department.

Funeral Services were held September 25 at the Fowler Funeral Home Inc., Brockport. Interment, Garland Cemetery.


•Wagner, Mary Elizabeth, On July 27, 2009. A Funeral Mass was celebrated September 26, at Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Brockport. Interment, Mount Olivet Cemetery, Brockport.


•Warren, William J. “Billy,” On September 23, 2009, at the age of 51. Predeceased by his parents Edward and Helen Warren. He is survived by his siblings Linda Hall (Ric), Sharon Warren, Ronald (Cathy), Edward (Karen), Sandra (Rick) Faro, Ken (Michelle), Diane Warren, Paul, Bruce, Valerie Warren, Dawn (Mike) Vergari; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Funeral Service was held September 26 at the Fowler Funeral Home, Inc., Brockport. Interment, Lake View Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the Wilmot Cancer Center in his memory.


CHURCHVILLE

•Skelton, G. Kathleen (Whitney), September 21, 2009 at age 89. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, James L. Skelton and her sisters, S. Virginia Drews and Avis Theis. She is survived by her children, Forrest (Donna Cipolla) Skelton and Susan (Rick) Huff; grandchildren, Leslie Skelton and Damion (Hannah) Hill; great granddaughter, Brielle Hill; many cousins. Kathleen was a graduate of Rochester General Hospital School of Nursing and a member of Eastern Star Nola Chapter for over 60 years.

Funeral Services were held September 25 at Walker Brothers Co. Funeral Home Inc., Churchville. Interment, Creekside Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the Churchville Lions Club or to a charity of one’s choice in her memory.


HILTON

•Staeyert Peteus J. September 19, 2009, at age 87. He is predeceased by his lifelong companion Anne Napieralski and granddaughter Rachael Girard. He is survived by family, Donna (Martin) Girard, Karla (Michael) MacMillan, Linda (Mark) Krum, Eileen (Tom) Peters; grandchildren; a great-grandson; sister Mary; nephews and many dear friends. Peteus was a United States Marine Corps Veteran serving during WWII, and was a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient.

A Memorial Service was held September 23 at the All Seasons Chapel of White Haven Memorial Park, where interment followed. Contributions can be made to Humane Society at Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Road, Fairport, NY 14450 in his memory.


NORTH CHILI

•Gillen, Claudine D., September 21, 2009. Predeceased by her sisters, Bonnie and Betty. Survived by her loving husband of 60 years, James; sons, James and Bill; grandson, James R.; sister, Dawn; and several nieces and nephews. Claudine was ham radio operator KB2EVJ.

Service and interment were held at the convenience of the family.


PARMA

•Contestabile, Michael Felix, September 16, 2009, at the age of 46. Predeceased by his father Michele Contestabile. Survived by his wife, Connie A. (Kloosterman) Contestabile; children, Savannah, Michela and Michael; mother, Agostina Contestabile; grandmother, Loreta Bacchetta; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Robert and Margie Kloosterman; sister Mary (Frank) Pettinaro; sister-in-law, Karen (John Robinson) Kloosterman; niece, Brianna Pettinaro; nephew, Franco Pettinaro. Michael was the Director of Engineering with Getinge USA.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated September 21 at St. Lawrence Church, Greece. Entombment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 2141 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 7000, El Segundo, California 90245 in his memory.


•Goodenbury, Barbara A., Peacefully, September 22, 2009, age 66, with her daughters at her bedside. She was predeceased by her husbands, Richard Goodenbury, 1994 and William Page, September 2008. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Paula (Ronald) Goodenbury-Birch, Jan (Barry) Fahmer, Lynn (Scott) Piper; step-children William Page II, Patricia Page (Penny Summers) and Scott Page; grandchildren, Jake, Levi, Luca, Daisy Bee, Kinsey Rose, Eli, Billy III, John David, Casey, Shannon and Riley; her brothers, Richard (Paula) Fraczek, John (Kate) Fraczek; her sister, Joan Brustowicz; nieces, nephews and many friends.

SPENCERPORT

•Converse, James D. “A.J. Hood,” Suddenly, September 20, 2009 at age 61. He is predeceased by his father, Eldon; sister, Linda Metcalf; brother, Richard or Oregon; sister-in-law, Sylvia Converse of Virginia; and step-father, Martin Smith. Survived by his mother, Margaret Converse; beloved wife of 26 years, Betsy (Tulley); daughters Cathi (Andy) Squier and Judy (Richard) Champlin; precious grandsons, Jacob Squier, Ross and Rory Champlin; granddogs, Casi and Baili; brothers, Robert (Faith) of Virginia, Gary and Dennis; brother-in-law, Robert Metcalf; step-mother, Sandra Converse; many nieces, nephews and special friends Jim was a Vietnam Army veteran and retired from the Spencerport Central School District after 26 years.

Services will be held on a later date at the convenience of the family. Contributions can be made to the Patchen and Briggs VFW Post 307, one’s local American Legion or to the Humane Society at Lollypop Farm in his memory.


•Landon, Robert Edward, September 12, 2009, at the age of 89. Born in Piqua, Ohio, on September 5, 1920. Robert is survived by his wife of 63 years, Irene E. (Doud) Landon; daughters, Terri Landon of Macedon and Nancy Mack of Carrollton, Texas; grandchildren Gregory Mack and Susan Mack of Carrollton, Texas. He served in the US Navy during World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor.

Funeral Services were held privately and he was interred in Fairfield Cemetery, Spencerport on September 16.
