•Arnold, Dorothy J., September 24 at age 88; wife of the late Alton M. Arnold; mother of Marvin (Irene) Arnold of Morrisville, Anne (Ken) Heale of Arcade and Deborah (Gene) Godlove of Bergen; sister of Richard (Heidi) Kirtland of Staunton, Virginia and Ruth Thygesen of Phoenix, Arizona; also survived by five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

BROCKPORT

•Cornell, Barbara E. Greene, age 88, died in Ithaca, NY on August 28, 2009, following a long illness. Barbara was born May 17, 1921, in Jefferson, Ohio, the daughter of Oakley and Ella Greene. She arrived in Ithaca in 2002, after bringing up her children with her husband in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and Brockport, New York. Barbara was known for her exceptional kindness to others and her commitments to her family, church and community. Survivors include her children, Sarah Cornell, of Paris, France, Deborah (Roger) Loring of Ithaca, David (Ruth) Cornell, of Highpoint, North Carolina; her grandchildren, Susannah, Nathan, and Tian Cornell and Matthew Loring; her great-grandchildren, Alex, and other treasured relatives. Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, George W. Cornell, her sister, Shirley Bowers of Painesville, Ohio and her brother, Walter Greene, of Austinburg, Ohio.

•Halferty, Ruth “Irma” (Schultz) (Peterson), formerly of Columbus, Ohio and San Antonio, Texas died September 26, 2009. She is survived by her sons, Charles (Debi), David (Liz) and Timothy (Terri) Peterson; nephew, Edward Jeffries; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and special friends, Irene Arno, Kathy Meicht, Ray Bayley and Pat Ward.

Interment will be private.


•Van Slooten, Karen (Murphy), of Titusville; age 53, died September 23, 2009, at home, with family at her side. She was born in Brockport and moved to Central Florida shortly after graduating high school. She is survived by husband, Jake (Jae); parents, Paul and Louise Murphy; in-laws, Mary and Charles; brother, Tim (Karen) Murphy; sister, Barb Geltner; brother-in-law, Charlie Van Slooten; sister-in-law, Debbie La Mendola (Pat); nieces and nephews, Trisha, Tim (Sam), Tom, Audrey, Mikaela, Nick, Kellie, Erica, Brandon and great-nephews, Tim and Jacob.

•Meals, Gretchen (Pike), September 24, 2009, at age 76. Predeceased by her brother, Everett Pike and sister Dorothy Fries. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Samuel Meals; children, Terry Meals of Arizona, Dawn Wright of North Carolina, Diane Iacchetta; grandchildren, Brandon Meals, Deanna Wright, Alicia and Michael Iacchetta; brothers and sisters, Robert (Pearl) Pike, Betty (Ralph) Frisch, Marion (Robert) Taylor, Kenneth Pike; brother-in-law, Gene Fries; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Meals, Alberta Pike; many nieces and nephews.

HOLLEY

•Webster, David Charles, age 60, died September 24, 2009 at the Buffalo Veteran’s Hospital after a battle with multiple sclerosis. He was born on September 15, 1949, the son of Hazel (Mower) and the late Charles Webster and was a lifetime resident of the area. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He is survived by his mother Hazel Webster; brothers, Donald Webster of Rochester, Steven and Mark Webster, both of Holley, and one daughter. He was predeceased by his father Charles and brother of Gerald, both in 2003.

Funeral Services were held September 29 at the Merrill-Grinnell Funeral Home, Holley. Interment, Hillside Cemetery with military honors. Contributions can be made to the Clarendon Ambulance in his memory.


NORTH CHILI

•Viel, Herbert R., (formerly of Herkimer, NY), on September 24, 2009, at age 85. Survived by his wife of 62 years Ann; children, Richard (Mariann), Carl (Roma), Maureen (Donna Pognoszewski), Elaine (Joe) Widay, Diann (Bill) Scialdo, Theresa and Mary Beth (Mike) Schluter; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson. Herbert was a WWII Airforce Gunner Sgt. and retired firefighter. He was Past Exalted Ruler of Herkimer Lodge Elks #1439 BPOE and a member of American Legion Post #38 Herkimer and VFW Post #1459 Herkimer.

A Memorial Mass was said September 28 at St. Christopher’s Church, North Chili. Contributions can be made to St. Christopher’s Church, 3350 Union Street, North Chili 14514 in his memory.


SPENCERPORT

•Baker, Henry W. “Hank”, September 28, 2009. Survived by his loving companion, Marge Revelle; children, Tom (Kandy) Baker of Pennsylvania, Terri (John) Handwerk of Pennsylvania, Jim Baker, JoAnne (Ken) Bell; sister, Priscilla Smith of Ohio; grandson, Jason Rampello; several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special friends, Bill, Sally and Sue.

Funeral Service and Interment at Holy Sepulchre were held privately.


•Cope, Dolores I., September 22, 2009, at age 77. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, John R. Cope. She is survived by her children Wayne (Cheryl) Cope, Randy (Liz) Cope, Sharon (Barr) Miesch, Terry Cope and Debra O’Neill; grandchildren, Michelle (Tim) Gurnsey, Rachel (Josh) Porter, Matthew and Monica Cope, Ryan and Melanie Cope, Tom (Crystal) Miesch, Josh (Nikki) Miesch, Emily Miesch, William (Carrie) O’Neill, Tyler and Bryce O’Neill; great-grandchildren, Michael Gurnsey, Robin Porter, T.J. and Abigail Miesch, Jayden Miesch, Rylie Miesch; brother-in-law, George Perroult and children, Donald and Barbara Perroult; many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Funeral Services were held September 29 at Walker Brothers Funeral Home Inc., Spencerport. Interment was held privately.


•Dietz, John F., Sr., September 24, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; sons, John Jr., and Steven E. (Marites); granddaughter, Kayla; niece and nephews.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated September 29 at St. John the Evangelist Church, Spencerport. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
