Hilton Fire Department receives
the Rochester Safety Council Gold Seal Award
On October 6, nineteen members of the Hilton Fire Department attended the Rochester Safety Council Annual Fire Service Luncheon. At this luncheon, the department was awarded the Gold Seal Award by the Rochester Safety Council. This award is presented each year to an individual or department that has risked their life to save another life. The Hilton Fire Department was given this award for their efforts at a fire on January 30, 2000 at 80 Parkwood Lane. more

Regional Rochester gets mixed reviews
The Common Good Planning Center recently released "Benchmarking Regional Rochester," a report that compares Rochester with 28 other metropolitan regions on 48 different measures. The report was prepared with the assistance of the Center for Governmental Research, Inc. more

Riga residents will see a decrease in their town tax bill if the $1.59 million proposed 2001 budget is passed at the next town board meeting. more

Motorists cautioned on deer-vehicle collisions
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner John P. Cahill urges motorists to drive extra carefully during the next three months as deer activity reaches its peak due to the start of fall breeding season and deer-vehicle collisions occur more commonly. more

New Chili Mobile Unit location
The West Side Mobile Unit Bus will now provide routine motor vehicle services at the new Chili Town Hall every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. more

Parma to vote on extending town clerk's term
A mandatory referendum will be held on Election Day, November 7, for Parma residents to vote whether or not to extend the term of the town clerk from two to four years. The Parma Town Board already voted unanimously in favor of the local law after a public hearing was held on August 15. more

Sweden begins Phase I of town park plan
The Town of Sweden has hired Schultz Associates Engineers to design the first group of new athletic fields to be developed at the Sweden Town Park. Sweden has allocated $190,000 in its proposed 2001 budget for park development; the cost of the engineering services for Phase I is not to exceed $30,000. more

Three area residents win at Olympic Performing Arts
Three Spencerport residents participated in the World Championships of the Performing Arts in October in Hollywood, California. Considered "The Olympics" of the entertainment world, this year's event included 1,500 delegates from 30 countries who competed in acting, modeling, singing, music, comedy and dance. Fifty delegates from the Rochester area participated. more

Hilton school district surveys community on pre-kindergarten needs
The Hilton Board of Education has formed a Universal Pre-Kindergarten Committee which is charged with researching and reporting on the "possible institution of educational programs for children ages three and four within the public school system or through private providers" according to Committee Co-Chair, Assistant Principal at Northwood Elementary School, Karen Bolinger. more

Hilton selects sixth grade teacher
Jim Dupont as "2000-01 Teacher of the Year"
The Hilton Central Schools Teachers' Association annually honors a Hilton teacher, nominated by his or her peers, students and their parents, to be awarded the "Teacher of the Year Award." This year, veteran elementary teacher James Dupont received this award at the annual faculty convocation in September. more

Holley students learn fire safety from the experts
Holley elementary students recently had an opportunity to see fire and ambulance equipment up close, talk to a 911 operator, and see a fire truck extend its ladder way up into the sky - all as part of the fire safety program local firefighters sponsor for the school every year. more

Holley teacher honored by American Heart Association
The American Heart Association has presented its Jump Rope for Heart Coordinator of the Year State Award to Holley physical education teacher Lisa Campbell for her active participation and support of the American Heart Association Jump Rope for Heart program. more

Spencerport teacher honored as Teacher of the Year
Jean Newman, a Cosgrove Middle School teacher, has received the Fingerlakes West District Family and Consumer Science Teacher of the Year Award. more
