Trinity Emmanuel Lutheran Church
celebrates 25th anniversary

On Sunday, November 12, Trinity Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 761 Elmgrove Road, Gates, will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the merger of Trinity Lutheran Church and Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

Trinity Lutheran Church was begun in 1891 at the corner of Campbell and Walmut Streets in the area of Rochester known as "Dutch Town." Emmanuel Lutheran Church was organized in 1922 on Thurston Road in the 19th Ward area of Rochester. Both churches faithfully reaching out to the community and beyond, served the Lord, and hundreds of people were baptized, confirmed, married and buried through the ministry of both churches.

The period of the 1950s, 60s and 70s brought many changes to Rochester, its neighborhoods and people, and those changes also brought changes to the church families of Trinity and Emmanuel. Both churches decided that the congregations of Trinity and Emmanuel would merge and form a new congregation called Trinity Emmanuel Lutheran Church. On May 22, 1975, it became official - Trinity Emmanuel Lutheran Church was born.

This new congregation worshipped in the Emmanuel Lutheran Building on Thurston Road, having sold the Trinity Lutheran Building. On September 19, 1976, the congregation of Trinity Emmanuel Lutheran Church voted to purchase four acres of land at 761 Elmgrove Road in the Town of Gates. Five years later on September 20, 1981, the present church building at 761 Elmgrove Road was dedicated and the congregation has worshipped at that location ever since.

The Lord has blessed Trinity Emmanuel Lutheran Church in its twenty-five years, as the congregation has grown to 450 members and has reached out to serve not only the Gates-Chili area but greater Rochester and beyond, according to parishioners.

The congregation of Trinity Emmanuel Lutheran Church welcomes the community to join them on Sunday, November 12 at either the 8:15 a.m. or 11 a.m. services. It will be a day of celebration, remembrances and thanksgiving for twenty-five years of ministry.
