Architectural treasures focus of Morgan-Manning meeting

The theme of the Morgan-Manning House November Program November 16 at 7:30 p.m. is the Erie Canal. Both photographer Andy Olenick and annotator Richard Reisem will present a slide show on the work they have done for their latest cooperative book, Erie Canal Legacy, published by the Landmark Society of Western New York.

The book is a tour of historic architecture in the cities, towns, villages, and hamlets that mushroomed along the Erie Canal. Architecture that still stands today and has been handed down as an invaluable heritage is a primary focus.

The Erie Canal is the single most important public work every undertaken in the United States. After the canal opened in 1825, it transformed New York state with vast areas of wilderness into America's first boom state. The Industrial Revolution in the U.S. was led by New York, which became the Empire State. This incredible growth produced some of the country's finest architecture, the principal focus of this book. The photographers are by Andy Olenick and the text, by Richard Reisem. They collaborated on two other books of architecture, one on Rochester and the other, Buffalo.

Books will be available for sale by Lift Bridge Book Shop. A percentage of the sales will be donated to the Western Monroe Historical Society. The book is published by the Landmark Society of Western New York at $39.95. A book signing/reception will follow the program. The public is invited.
