New church opens in Brockport

Victory Fellowship held its first meeting Sunday, June 11 in the Thompson Conference Center on the campus of the State University of New York College at Brockport. Twenty-five people were in attendance. Near the end of July, the staff of the college informed the church that the Thompson Conference Center was scheduled to be converted into dorm rooms for the Fall 2000 term, so the church had to find another place to meet. The former Martial Arts Studio at 203 South Main Street was available, and Victory Fellowship moved there in August.

An official grand opening service was held at the new facility on Sunday, September 10, with 51 worshippers in attendance. The average Sunday attendance ranges anywhere from 20 to 35 and is slowly, yet steadily growing. A Sunday school program for children and several outreach ministries have been started as well. Service times are: Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. and Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. Visitors are always welcome.

The new church's pastor is Alex M. True, a graduate of Albion High School (1992), the University of Rochester (1997), the Baptist Bible Graduate School of Theology (2000). True is currently a doctoral student at Luther Rice Seminary. True's wife, Sarah, is currently a graduate student at the American International Bible Institute.

Worship director is David Vanatter, who is also an undergraduate student at Luther Rice Seminary. Vanatter's wife, Cindy, teaches second grade at North Star Christian Academy. For more information about the church, call True at 747-1151 or e-mail alsartrue@hotmail.com.
