St. Luke's Choir performs concert to benefit local food shelf

St. Luke's Episcopal Church Choir performs a benefit concert Sunday, November 19, at 7 p.m. at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, located at the corner of Main Street and Monroe Avenue in Brockport. The concert will be for the benefit of the local Food Shelf. There is no admission fee, but cash and non-perishable food donations will be accepted.

John Vreeland, music director of St. Luke's for more than 10 years, said, "The choir at St. Luke's wanted to give something back to our community. With Thanksgiving coming up in the near future, it brings to mind people in our local area who are in need. Without the resources provided by organizations like the Food Shelf, there are families who would go hungry even on Thanksgiving. With the support of our community, this gives us an opportunity to pull together and really make a difference for these families."

The music program will include selections from the 16th through the 20th centuries, and will include both secular and non-secular music. Selections will be sung a cappella (without accompaniment) in English, Italian, German and Latin, and range from four-to-six-part harmony.

St. Luke's Choir members are all volunteers. Ranging in age from their early 20s to one member who is almost 90, they get together twice weekly to polish their performance.
