Hamlin native wins horse competition

Dawn Carlton placed first in individual competition at the 2000 Eastern National 4-H Round-Up recently held in Louisville, Kentucky.

Carlton competed against 80 4-H members from 20 states in the Hipplogy Contest which is the intense study of the horse and the horse industry. The competition was for 4-H members who had already competed at county, regional and state level.

Carlton's team of four also placed first in its division. Other team member were Jessica Maher, Katie Rovente, and Caitlin Niedzialkowski.

Earlier this year Carlton and her team - Aubre Fox, Katie Lobel, Michele Capamaggio and Jessica Maher - placed first at the Inter-County Competition held in Elmira. This competition included riding skills, stable management, knowledge test, and showmanship.

Carlton is currently in her second year at SUNY Delhi College, and will graduate in the Spring of 2001 with a Veterinarian Technology Degree.

Her Louisville prize was a $1,000 scholarship from the American Quarter Horse Association.
