HEAP funding totals higher for Monroe County

Monroe County expects to receive more than $9.07 million from New York state for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). HEAP provides needed energy assistance for low-income households and is an ongoing program.

HEAP has been funded since 1982 and is jointly administered by the Monroe County Department of Social Services and Aging along with Action for a Better Community. The program provides funds for low income, elderly and public assistance households to meet the cost of energy bills. The state grant totals $9,073,065 and is an approximate 10 percent increase from last year's funding level. The grant itself is totally funded by the federal government.
