New York's private sector job count reaches record high
The private sector job count increased for the sixteenth time in the past seventeen months. After seasonal adjustment, the number of private sector jobs rose by 8,500 from September to a record high count of 7,212,4000 in October. more

Residents' input sought for park improvements
County residents are invited to attend a Public Input Workshop on Monday, December 11, to offer comments and ask questions regarding Phase II construction at Black Creek Park for a new lodge, picnic shelter, restrooms, fishing and canoe access, playing fields and parking improvements. more

Water rates to rise in Sweden
The Monroe County Water Authority will raise water rates in the Town of Sweden on January 1, the second raise in the two years since the authority took over the former Brockport water system. more

C-C Community Dialogue group members needed
Mary Alice Price, Superintendent of Churchville-Chili School District, is seeking the names of community members interested in being considered for membership in the Community Dialogue Group. The group was formed two years ago to support the development of a strong K-12 school-to-career program. more

Community members invited to join
Spencerport schools' budget advisory committee
As part of the 2001-02 budget process, the Spencerport Board of Education is again establishing a Budget Advisory Committee. The board and Superintendent of Schools are looking for six district residents who are willing to serve on this committee as members at large. more

Spencerport Board of Education names new superintendent
The Spencerport Board of Education named Phillip Langton as the district's new superintendent on November 21. Langton, currently superintendent at Manchester-Shortsville (Red Jacket) Central Schools, is expected to assume his new position by the beginning of February. Langton replaces Dr. Richard Timbs, who is now district superintendent for Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES. more

Brockport's Joan Schockow named Northeast Coach of the Year
SUNY College at Brockport women's soccer coach Joan Schockow, who led her team to the semifinals of both the SUNYAC and ECAC Upstate New York tournaments, has been named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Adidas New York/Northeast Coach of the Year for 2000. more

From Spencerport to Cornell
Sam Paolini still holds the Section V high school hockey record for assists in the regular season with 44 during the 1994-95 season - when he was in 8th grade. He would register 88 assists over his two years as a Spencerport Ranger before moving on to Choate Rosemary Hall for his last three years of high school. Last season he played his freshman year of college hockey at the Division I level for the Big Red at Cornell University. more

Genagon promoted to Fifth Degree Black Belt
Sensei Tammy Genagon was promoted recently to Go-Dan (fifth degree black belt) in Isshin Ryu Karate by Shihan Cyndy Jones on behalf of Master Kichiro Shimabuku. Sensei Genagon has been training since 1987 as part of the Gillam Grant Collamer-Jones Karate program in Bergen. Genagon also teaches karate and manages the school's tournament team. more

Hilton Hockey Boosters to host benefit
The Hilton High School Hockey Boosters will sponsor an open ice skating benefit on Saturday, December 9 for the Robby Coppaway Memorial Scholarship Fund. The event will be held from 8:15 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the ESL Sport Centre, 2700 Brighton Henrietta Town Line Road (on the MCC campus). more
