Holley boy to race
for scholarship

A Holley student is joining others from around the country to compete for $10,000 college scholarships in the fifth annual Kmart Kids Race Against Drugs National Championships to be held in Orlando, Florida from January 17-21. Nine year old Joseph Brooks, son of David and Chris Brooks, is one of three racers from the Rochester area who won a spot in the national competition.

The Kmart Kids Race Against Drugs National Championships conclude a nationwide drug and alcohol abuse awareness tour that reached more than 700,000 children and their families this year by making 562 stops in 90 cities across the United States.

Participating children were selected after competing in Kmart Kids Race Against Drugs races at Kmart stores in their area. First-place winners from each race were entered in a drawing and out of approximately 3,000 eligible participants, 132 children and two members of each child's family won all-expenses-paid trips to the National Championships.

In Orlando, all children and their families will stay at Walt Disney World's Coronado Springs Resort and will be awarded passes to tour the theme parks. The National Championship finals will be held at the resort.

The first-place boy and girl racer in each age division will receive a $10,000 college scholarship. A total of six $10,000 scholarships will be awarded.
