Brockport area burglary ring apprehended

Four suspects in a rash of burglaries on Brockport’s west side have been arrested by village police. According to Brockport Police Chief Gary Zimmer, attorneys for the four men waved preliminary hearings and are now preparing for a grand jury hearing.

The suspects are accused of committing numerous burglaries on Perry Street, Maxon Street, Adams Street and Union Street. All of the victims were SUNY Brockport students living in off-campus housing.

Three of the four suspects are SUNY Brockport students, the fourth is a student at MCC. Three of the suspects live in off-campus student housing themselves, the fourth lives in a SUNY Brockport dormitory. According to Zimmer, SUNY Brockport suspended the three students immediately, pending the outcome of the legal proceedings, and Zimmer expected MCC to follow suit.

Zimmer credits the success of the investigation that led to the arrests to the "detailed descriptions of the suspects and the vehicle they were driving" by neighbors. He also credited his officers for "dozens of hours of taking reports and statements."

The four suspects have each been charged with four counts of burglary in the second degree (a felony); three counts of grand larceny in the third degree (a felony); seven counts of criminal possession of a stolen property in the fifth degree (a misdemeanor); and one count of petit larceny (a misdemeanor).

The four men were arraigned in Sweden Town Court where they all entered not guilty pleas. Bail was set at $2,500 cash/$5,000 bond.
