"Gift of Warmth" needed for cold weather

The cold weather takes a toll on the neediest members of the community, who often do not have the warm winter clothing necessary in greater Rochester. The "Gift of Warmth" program helps provide outerwear for needy children and adults.

From now until January 5, people can drop off hats, mittens, gloves, and scarves at M&T Bank branches, including branches located at Tops Friendly Markets. Collection bins are also located at Play It Again Sports stores.

The Salvation Army will give away the items as part of its Christmas Assistance program and the Emergency Family Assistance program. Winter clothing is one of the most requested items of emergency assistance throughout the year.
