Local residents will be part of International Parade

Ten youth and five adults from churches in the Hilton area will be going to Pasadena, California to be Petal Pushers, a group of 5,000 volunteers from around the country who work on final decoration of the floats built by Phoenix Decorating Company. Some of the floats decorated in the past have been sponsored by International House Of Pancakes, Panda Express, United Airlines, Farmers Insurance, City of Saint Louis, our local Kodak Float, and the Petal Pushers parents float, The Lutheran Hour.

This group will be leaving on December 26, at 11 a.m. from their host church, St. Paul Lutheran, in Hilton. They will return to the Buffalo International Airport at 9:30 p.m. on January 1, 2001.

The 2001 Tournament of Roses Parade theme will be Fabric of America. The Lutheran Hour Float theme is In God We Trust; a sampler quilt made up of 42 blocks representing Christian symbols. Adjacent is the pulpit with the Bible opened to Proverbs 3:5 "Trust in the Lord …" Every section of the float must be covered by something living at one time. For example, the Bible will be covered with crushed white rice. The lettering will be decorated with onion and clover seed. A Holiday Hayride fundraiser to help support the trip is scheduled for December 16 from 2 to 7 p.m. at Kruger's Farm, 688 Walker Lake Ontario Road, Hamlin.
