Churchville officials
break ground for
village hall project

Village Clerk Sue Davis, Trustee Nancy Steedman, Mayor Donald Ehrmentraut, Trustee Marian Gowan, Trustee Lyle Warren and Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Official Tom Williamson braved the snow December 5 to hold the official groundbreaking for the new Churchville Village Hall.

Construction is set to begin this week on the 4,400 square-foot building on East Buffalo Street next to Black Creek. The new village hall will incorporate an existing building on the site with new construction, and has been designed with a colonial theme.

The facade will use both brick and beige vinyl siding, and a carillon will sit in a tower on top of the building. A board room, conference rooms, administrative offices and bathrooms accessible from the outside are included in the plans.

"It's been a long time coming," said Gowan. The village hall has been in the planning stages for several years.

Ehrmentraut has said he is excited about the site, which borders Black Creek and will connect to Churchville Commons in the rear. A park will be built on the site in the spring, including a walkway along the creek.

"The centerpiece will be a gazebo, used for weekend entertainment and other cultural events," Ehrmentraut said.

Village officials hope to leave the space they now lease at 22 South Main Street and move into the new building by the end of April 2001.
