Emily Rowe is CURE Childhood Cancer Association's assistant director, programs. In this position, Rowe will oversee the development and ongoing activities for all family and community outreach programs.

Previously, Rowe was employed as a health educator at Medina Memorial Hospital where she was responsible for planning and implementing a three county Healthy Heart Worksite Grant. She is a graduate of State University of New York College at Brockport with a bachelor's degree in health science.

Rowe is a Chili resident.


Local students recently inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Monroe Community College include: Robert Swanger of Brockport; Carrie Vernon of Hilton; Charlene Schicker of Holley; and Marie Northrup of Ogden.


Jeremy Rath of Hamlin was awarded a $500 Educational Foundation Academic Distinction Scholarship from Alfred State. Rath is slated to graduate in 2001 from Kendall Jr.-Sr. High School and intends to enroll in the architectural engineering technology program.


Karl Heberger has been named sales representative for TheBestInRochester.com. Heberger is a recent graduate of SUNY Brockport and holds a bachelor of science degree in marketing. Heberger resides in Spencerport.


Bennett J. Floyd, Spencerport, has received the Operator of the Year Award at the Pennsylvania College of Technology. He is a student in the heavy construction equipment technology associate-degree program.


Paul J. Blackcloud, a Dartmouth College junior from Churchville, is studying Environmental Studies in Harare, Zimbabwe this fall as part of the college's foreign study program there. Blackcloud is the son of Kristine and Claude Blackcloud.


Jim Harris, Jr., owner of THE MAIDS serving Albany, Schenectady, Syracuse, Columbia County, Greece, Gates, Chili, Brockport, Hilton and Spencerport, was named to THE MAIDS International's Winner's Circle, from more than 150 franchise owners, for outstanding operational efficiency in sales, labor and close percent. Harris bases the company's success on high demand and on delivering a superior service each time a home is cleaned.


Dianne Hickerson's watercolor "Sunkissed" has received the Best of Show Award at the Batavia Society of Artists 2000 Winter Art Show. The work was one of 84 pieces of various media accepted in the juried exhibition.

"Sunkissed" was also included in the North East Watercolor Society annual national exhibition in Kent, Connecticut, October 20 to November 5. It was Hickerson's first submission of her work in competition outside of New York state.

Other of the artist's watercolors appeared recently in juried exhibitions by the Rochester Art Club, the Pittsford Art Group, and the Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society's national exhibition in Lockport.

Hickerson retired from Brockport's Hill School in June, 1996, after 33 years as an elementary school teacher. She began competitive showing of her works in October 1997.

Colin G Mitchell recently completed the cadet basic training program at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, New York. The training is designed to form new academy cadets into disciplined soldier-officers possessing personal pride, confidence, obedience to command orders, and dedication to duty.

After completing the basic training program, the cadet is accepted into the U.S. Corps of Cadets at the academy. Upon graduating from the academy, the cadet receives a bachelor's degree and is commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army. Mitchell is the son of Gary A. and Karen S. Mitchell and a 2000 graduate of Gates Chili High School.
