Spencerport hosts Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament

The Spencerport School District hosts the 4th annual Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Tournament at Nazareth College on December 27 and 28. Last year's event netted a $6,000 donations to the American Cancer Society. This year's goal is $7,500.

Last year, the district instituted the "Point Pledge Challenge." Spencerport players from grades 7-12 will be soliciting pledges for every point that our varsity team scores in the tournament (probably between 100-150). Or, people can make a flat rate donation. "In either case, if your family has ever been touched by cancer please consider making a pledge to this very worthy cause," says basketball coach Mike Blackwell. "If your family has not been touched by this disease, then I hope you will assist us in the fight to beat cancer with your pledge so that you may never have to deal with cancer." Contributions are tax-deductible and can be made with any of the district's players or coaches, at any of Spencerport's home games, or via mail to Mike Blackwell at Spencerport High School, 2707 Spencerport Road, Spencerport, NY 14559-1991.
