Rangers Hockey loses to Irondequoit

The Irondequoit Indians were picked as one of the pre-season favorites to win the Section Five hockey title, but they weren't able to steamroll over the Rangers in a 5-1 win November 29 at SUNY Brockport. "I think there were a lot of people out there who thought that this game would be a lot different than it turned out and that's proof to us that we can play with just about anyone in this league," said Head Coach Tom Donnelly after the game.

The Indians scored the first two goals of the game in the first period before Spencerport sophomore forward Joe Tremaine scored at the 7:32 mark with an assist from senior captain Brent Warren. That would be as close as the Rangers would get as Irondequoit added one more goal in the first period and one each in the second and third. Senior goaltender Scott Brennan played well, facing 34 shots and making 29 saves, some of the spectacular variety.

After falling behind 3-1 after the first period, Spencerport allowed only one goal in each of the final two periods. Donnelly said, "We're pleased with the character that showed, but we need to go back to work and mend a few of the cracks we have on our defense and build from the bottom up. We're not looking behind because that will be the direction we go if we do."

The Rangers next play Penfield Wednesday, December 13 at Lakeshore and Brockport Saturday, December 16 at SUNY Brockport.
