Rangers drop volleyball league opener

The Spencerport Rangers girls' varsity volleyball team lost to Irondequoit in its league opener in three straight games. After dropping the first game 15-6, the Rangers held a 5-1 lead in the second game, but were outscored 14-8 the rest of the way in losing 15-9. In game three, down 6-2, Spencerport rallied behind junior Kristen Bourne's two points on service including an ace and junior Kristina Schweikert's service point brought them within one at 6-5. But, it was all Indians the rest of the game in a 15-6 loss.

Schweikert had 10 digs and one kill in the game. Senior Becky Kellerson had four blocks, an ace and three digs and senior MaryEllen Uschold added two kills and seven digs. Head Coach Amy Burbano was disappointed with the team's showing, "We seemed very uptight tonight maybe because this was our first real test. We beat Batavia and Greece Odyssey earlier, but this was a good team we played tonight and we couldn't put it together."

The Rangers have three matches in the coming week: at Greece Arcadia Tuesday, December 12, at Gates-Chili Thursday December 14 and home versus Greece Arcadia Saturday, December 16.
