Spencerport student-athletes care

Spencerport Central Schools Department of Physical Education and Athletics has announced that each of its athletic teams will be participating in a volunteer community service/charity project during the 2000-2001 school year.

This fall the Rangers varsity athletic teams have performed a variety of projects: fall cheerleaders participated in Breast Cancer Walk; cross country runners supervised the Turkey Trot; football team coached the Ogden Bears for a week in August; boys soccer team made a presentation to Munn students regarding the importance of academics, athletics, and sportsmanship; girls soccer team held a car wash for CURE and participated in Rochester Breast Cancer Walk; girls swimmers held a food drive for Food Link; and girls tennis players cleaned canal banks in the Village of Spencerport.

The winter and spring athletic teams also will be performing volunteer activities during their seasons. The Spencerport Student-Athletes Care program won the 1994 National Award of Excellence for Community Relations from Athletic Management Magazine.
