Donation received for defibrillators in public buildings
Monroe County Executive Jack Doyle has announced the acceptance of a $9,000 donation from the Townson Foundation to expand the county's comprehensive, life-saving program which provides Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in public buildings to aid victims of cardiac arrest. more

Hamlin makes history with tree lighting
History was made in Hamlin on December 9 when Ryan and Erin Moses lit the tree at the town's first annual tree lighting ceremony sponsored by The Friends of the Hamlin Public Library. Ryan, 12, and Erin, 9, won the coveted position that evening in a drawing to determine the lucky tree lighter. more

Hilton School District settles teachers' contract
The Hilton Central School Teachers' Association (H.C.S.T.A.) and the Hilton School District reached a settlement on a four-year contract, June 2000-June 2004, which was approved by a vote of the Association December 11 (273-17) and adopted unanimously by the Board of Education at its December 12 meeting. more

Spencerport Area Chamber to honor community members
The Spencerport Area Chamber of Commerce has chosen winners of its 2000 awards. The awards will be presented at its annual dinner on Friday, January 26, 2001 at the Plantation Party House and will feature entertainment by the Music Department from Spencerport High School. more

Allied proposes freezer building expansion
The Brockport Planning Board will hold a Public Hearing on January 8 at 7:45 p.m. to gather comments about Allied Builders' proposal to expand its existing freezer building at 250 State Street. more

Cell tower to be built in Hamlin
The Town of Hamlin has approved the construction of a 180-foot tall cell tower on town property near the highway garage. Verizon Wireless will pay the town $7,500 per year to lease the land. more

Chili broadcasts monthly community report
The Town of Chili will be broadcasting another report to the community on cable channel 12 on Wednesday, December 27 at 7:30 p.m. The show, which is usually broadcast on the last Monday of the month, will be broadcast on Wednesday this month due to the Christmas holiday. more

Citizens Police Academy offered by Ogden Police
Ogden Police will offer their fifth Citizens Police Academy in January 2001 and is open to Ogden residents (including the Village of Spencerport) and business owners. more

Clarkson to look at town hall improvements
The Town of Clarkson has earmarked funds in its 2001 budget to take a look at making some improvements to the town hall. The town board has slated $5,000 for a study to determine if record storage space and restrooms can be improved. more

Sweden works on two public water projects
The Towns of Sweden and Clarendon are nearing the completion of an agreement that would extend a water line on White Road in Sweden to the Town of Clarendon border. According to Sweden Highway Superintendent Craig Smith, the agreement calls for Clarendon to purchase all materials and the Sweden highway department to install the line. more

Some second-grade students at Churchville Elementary School learned lessons of the past during old-fashion day - a day when they and their teachers dressed and acted as if they were living and learning in times of yore. more

Holley students learn aboutsports management, tour Frontier Field
Holley High School students were among students from six other districts who attended a project ADEPT (A Diversified Enrichment Program for the Talented) on the field of sports management. The two-part program was conducted by Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES to give students an introduction to the multitude of employment opportunities within the multi-billion dollar industry of professional sports. more

Holley students take limo ride to lunch
Some Holley third-graders recently hopped aboard a stretch limousine and rode in style to the McDonald's restaurant in Brockport, where they had lunch. more

All-State Conference
Six Brockport High School Music Department students and two student alternates were chosen to participate in the NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) Conference All-State ensembles this year. more

Read-A-Thon emphasizes student's hunger to learn
In memory of a class mate, members of the Churchville-Chili Junior High Leo Club are helping sponsor the Richard Reisig Memorial Read-A-Thon. Richard Reisig was a hard working student who was dyslexic and found reading difficult. more

Senior Christmas Dinner scheduled
The Orleans County Office of the Aging encourages area seniors over age 60 to attend the annual Christmas dinner prepared by Nutrifair and served at Nutrifair centers in Medina, Albion, Lyndonville, Holley, and Kendall. more


In Sports:

Blue Devils girls volleyball
The Brockport Blue Devils varsity girl's volleyball team throttled Spencerport 15-2, 15-2, and 15-2 on December 9 at home. Senior co-captain Meghan Schuth served the final eight points of the second game and added eight digs during the match. more

Brockport women hold off Potsdam
Sophomore Lynda Ferris (Brockport) scored 14 points and sophomore Kristen Clark (Hilton) had 11 points and a Brockport season-high 16 rebounds as the Golden Eagles topped Potsdam, 53-51, in a SUNYAC women's basketball game on December 9. more

Hilton to host memorial hockey alumni game
The Hilton Hockey Boosters will host the first annual Rob Coppaway Alumni Game on Saturday, December 30 at Lakeshore Ice Arena. The game begins at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door and cost $2 for adults, $1 for students, those under 12 years of age will be admitted free. more

Spencerport schedules holiday tournament
Spencerport Central Schools, Roberts Wesleyan College and Wendy's will be hosting the 10th annual Holiday Classic Girls Basketball Tournament on December 27 and 28 at Nazareth College. more

Spencerport Central Schools will be hosting its annual Holiday Swim Relays on Thursday, December 21 in the Spencerport High School pool. more

Teike/Bernabi Wrestling Tournament to be held
The 35th Annual Teike/Bernabi Wrestling Tournament, sponsored by the Spencerport Rotary Club, will be held on Thursday and Friday, December 28 and 29. The tournament will be held in the Spencerport High School gymnasium. more

Victor Gymnasts compete in Candy Cane Classic
The Victor Gymnasts competed at the Candy Cane Classic, December 2-3. Representing the Victors in Level 4 were Kaila Curatalo, Allison Freeman, Lindsay Hawes, Tabatha Leicht, Janine Pierleoni, Maghan Clark and Karylyn Coleman. In the 9-11 age division, Pierleoni received fifth on vault and fourth all around. In the 12-and-older age division, Clark was first on bars, fifth of floor and third all around. Coleman placed second on bars, third on floor and fourth all around. more
