Hamlin library ready to expand

Just months after its initial opening, the Hamlin Public Library is ready to expand.

Hamlin Supervisor Austin Warner is in the final days of negotiating a lease for more space in the plaza where the library opened its doors earlier this spring. The town is planning to lease an additional 700 feet of space, formerly a tanning salon, that is adjacent to the current library.

Warner expects the lease negotiations to be complete by the beginning of January. Then the library board of trustees will decide how to best connect the two spaces. Trustees and Director Claire Franek will also decide how the new area will be used. Warner said more room is needed for both book shelving and for programs. Other needs include a lunch area for library employees and an office for the director.
