A faith-inspired place to shop
When Barb DiVincenzo looked down at her feet and saw a penny that had been flattened and inscribed with The Lord's Prayer, she knew she had found the new location for St. John's Religious Shoppe and Bookstore. Previously located in the basement of St. John The Evangelist Church of Spencerport on Martha Street, the 26-year-old shop had to either close or move after the village fire marshall report indicated that it had become too crowded to be safe. Church volunteers sprang into action, making a list of sites available for rent and then visiting each of them. more

Chili resident achieves highest Boy Scout honor
On September 12, Travis John Earley passed his Eagle Board of Review and was honored on November 5, by Boy Scout Troop 53 for achieving Scouting’s highest rank of Eagle Scout. more

RG&E will make refunds to gas customers
Rochester Gas and Electric Corp. (RG&E) will accelerate refunds to natural gas customers totaling $5.7 million, beginning next month. more

Sweden Village’s merry mailman
“One day last winter I looked out – we had those huge, huge drifts – and here is the mailman crawling over the snow drifts to deliver the mail,” said Robert Berry who lives on Hollybrook Road. “I thought to myself, God, this is dedication; nowhere else would you see it. He did not miss a day, not a day. This guy is unbelievable, always upbeat, always has a nice word and a smile.” Berry wrote this praise to the Postmaster General in Washington. more

Brockport congratulates new fire chiefs
On December 28, Brockport's new fire chief will be Greg Wing who replaces John Alexander after three years in the top spot. The new deputy fire chief will be Christian McCullough and the new assistant chief will be Mike Warren. At the December 18 village board meeting, Brockport trustees thanked Alexander for his years of service to the community. more

Blue Devils win two in hockey
Senior co-captain Brian Abrams had a hat trick, including two shorthanded, to lead Brockport to an easy 8-2 victory over Spencerport December 16 at SUNY Brockport. more

Brockport athletes receive Scholar/Athlete Team Award
Brockport High School's Varsity Football, Girls Varsity Tennis, Girls Varsity Swimming, and Girls Varsity Cross Country teams received the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Scholar/Athlete Team Award for the Fall 2000 season. The award is given to high school athletic teams which have maintained a high cumulative grade point average throughout their athletic season. more

Churchville-Chili offers winter baseball camp
The Churchville-Chili Continuing Education Department is giving youngsters a chance to sample a summer treat in the middle of winter. The department is offering a winter baseball camp in January and February at the C-C Middle School. more

Ranger girls beat Gates Chili
Junior forward Katie Radel hit two free throws with 1:16 left in regulation to send the game into overtime and junior guard Emily Beale calmly made five of six free throws in the last :35 of the extra session as Spencerport came from behind to defeat Gates Chili 55-51 December 12 at home. more

Spencerport man wins North American
ProRally Driver’s Championship
Karl Scheible, of Spencerport, became only the fifth driver from the United States since 1976 to win the overall driver’s title in the North American ProRally Championship. Russ Hughes of LeRoy, who navigated for Scheible, finished second in the co-driver’s Championship. Scheible’s title followed his 1999 North American Production Class title which he won racing the VW Beetle. more
