Ithaca College has awarded the Kathryn A. C. Martin Music Scholarship for the spring semester to Kristin Arnold.

The Martin scholarship was established by the late Kathryn A. C. Martin to recognize deserving students in the School of Music. Preference is given to students who are members of Sigma Alpha Iota music honor society.

Arnold is majoring in music education at the School of Music. Her instrument is voice. While at the college, Kristin has been actively involved with the Chorus and Women's Chorale and named to the dean's list for fall 2000. A graduate of Hilton Central High School, she is a permanent resident of 95 Dunbar Road, Hilton.


Bowling Green State University awarded degrees during its 239th graduation ceremonies on December 23.

Among area residents receiving degrees was Steven J. Farrington, Frisbee Hill Road, Hilton. He received a master of arts degree.


The following students were named to the President's List at SUNY Potsdam for the fall 2000 semester:

Andrea Lynn Ferris, a childhood education major, the daughter of Ramon Ferris and Maureen Ferris of Rochester.

Sarah May Whalley, a music education major, daughter of Jaye Whalley of Brockport.


Jennifer Kathleen Woodworth of Bergen, a mathematics and secondary education major at SUNY Potsdam, was awarded a bachelor's degree summa cum laude in December 2000.

She is the daughter of Donald and Beth Woodworth of Bergen.


Jeffrey Lynch, Spencerport, has been named to the dean's list for the fall quarter at RIT. A fourth-year student in the College of Applied Science and Technology, Lynch is studying computer science.

He is the son of Terrence and Susan Lynch and a 1997 graduate of Spencerport High School.


Patricia Thompson, has been awarded a $500 "Educational Foundation Academic Distinction Scholarship from Alfred State College. Thompson is slated to graduate in 2001 from Gates Chili Senior High School and intends to enroll in the architectural engineering technology program.


Gregory Wagner of Hilton has been awarded a $500 "Alumni Scholarship," from Alfred State College. Wagner is slated to graduate in 2001 from Hilton Central High School and intends to enroll in the computer science program.


Mariana E. Taber, of Spencerport, has been named to the Manhattanville College dean's list for grades earned during the fall 2000 semester. Manhattanville students must obtain a grade point average of 3.6 or better to be named to the dean's list.


Justin Yates, of Chili, has been named to the fall 2000 dean's list at Baldwin-Wallace College, Berea, Ohio.


Jeffrey McFiggins, of Clarkson, has been named to the dean's list for the fall quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A fourth-year student in the College of Engineering, McFiggins is studying electrical engineering. He is the son of Dennis and Madeline McFiggins and a 1997 graduate of Brockport High School.


Gregory M. Schuler of Brockport received a bachelor of science degree in business administration and finance from SUNY Fredonia this fall.


Katie R. Burch of Hamlin received a bachelor of music degree from SUNY Fredonia this fall.


The following Brockport students participated in the Senior High Area All State Festival held on November 17-18 at Greece Athena High School:

Chorus - Mark Bader, Dan Burns, Josh DuPre, Zack Dupra, Emily Georger, Holly Gursslin, Lindsay Marasco, Jesse Porter, Katie Selig and Cherilyn Whitney;

Band - Nate Emmerson, Paul Guarino, Jon Miller, Melissa Oaks, Abbey Rhode and Jenna Sime;

Jazz Band - Adam Giese and Greg McCandless;

Orchestra - Kelly Bliemeister, Jennifer Buttery, Youngsun Cho, Katie Emmerson, Miriam Newman, Lindsay Kindred, Tara Madsen, Abbey Rhode, Jenna Sime and Stephanie Wisnowski.


Colleen Fenity, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence E. Fenity of Spencerport, has been named to the dean's list at Hamilton College for the 2000 fall semester. A junior majoring in English at Hamilton, Fenity is a graduate of E. J. Wilson Senior High School.


The following local residents have been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Nazareth College: Karl Alexander of Hamlin; Shannon Andre of Hilton; Pamela Kruger of Kendall; Erin Locke of Hamlin; Denise Mahns of Hilton; Victoria Tenny of Hilton; Adam Thaine of Kendall; and Regina Heeks of Spencerport.


Cynthia Burley, a 22-year employee of Lakeside Health System, was named January's Employee of the Month. Burley, of Brockport, works as a member of the Food Production team. Her supervisor, Tammy Palumbo, stated that Cindy is a great team player and has never refused to come to work, even on her day off, to help out.


Laura and Julie Szymanowicz have been named to the dean's list of their respective colleges for the fall 2000 semester. Laura is a senior at Nazareth College majoring in music education. Julie is a freshman political science major at Niagara University.

They are the daughters of Mary and Richard Szymanowicz of Spencerport.


Jeffrey C. Povelaites, a resident of Rochester, was named to the dean's list for the fall 2000 semester at Alfred University. He is a freshman in the NYS College of Ceramics. Students must earn at least a 3.3 grade point average to qualify for dean's list.

Povelaites is a ceramic engineering major at Alfred University.

A graduate of Aquinas Institute Rochester, Povelaites is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Povelaites of Rochester.


Cindy J. De Felice, a resident of Bergen, was named to the dean's list for the fall 2000 semester at Alfred University. She is a senior in the NYS College of Ceramics. Students must earn at least a 3.3 grade point average to qualify for dean's list.

De Felice is an art and design major at Alfred University.

A graduate of Byron-Bergen High School, De Felice is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marion P. De Felice of Bergen.


The following students were named to the dean's list for their outstanding academic performance at Roberts Wesleyan College, North Chili, during the fall 2000 semester.

Special recognitions were made for Honors, grade point average ranging from 3.30 to 3.59; High Honors, grade point average ranging from 3.60 to 3.84; Highest Honors, grade point average ranging from 3.85 to 4.0. Hilton-Parma Recreation welcomes Wayne Smith to their administrative staff. Wayne Smith is the new recreation aide at Hilton Parma Recreation. He will be directly involved with youth and teen programming, as well as coordinating the Department's Youth Asset initiative. A graduate of SUNY Brockport in the field of recreation and leisure studies, Smith's most recent job experience includes administering the summer playground program for the Town of Brighton.


Elaine Crowell of Re/Max First in Greece has joined the Women's Council of Realtors (WCR).

Elaine Crowell has been affiliated with Re/Max First and Re/Max Portfolio for the last 11 years. She has been licensed for over 25 years and has worked for two other local real estate companies. She is a native of Chili and previously taught school at Gates Chili. She and her husband, Paul Crowell, reside in Ogden with their son, Jory Crowell. They additionally represent in sales locally, Wohlers Development Corporation and Budvale Construction Corporation. Top awards locally and internationally by Re/Max have been consistently awarded them. They say their mission statement embraces "a commitment to excellence."

The Crowells are active alumna at Roberts Wesleyan College and volunteer at Pearce Memorial Church, including its expansion. They support local sports as well as CMN at Strong Memorial (Pediatric).

Elaine Crowell states that this new opportunity in the WCR will promote growth; furthering extra connections for the benefit of their buyers and sellers.

Vice president for membership in the Rochester area, Peggy Keenan, stated that a WCR membership could be "a critical element in the future of one's career."

The local chapter, one of 300 across the United States, meets monthly.


Army National Guard Pvt. Joseph A. Maloney has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina. He is the son of James Maloney of Spencerport and Catherine Gleber of LeRoy. Maloney is a 2000 graduate of Greece Olympia High School.


Army Spec. John M. Emerson has graduated from the CH-47 "Chinook" helicopter repairer course at Fort Eustis, Newport News, Virginia. Emerson is the son of Neva F. Hoyt of Hilton.
