GCC, BOCES offer GED prep program

Genesee Community College and the Genesee Valley Board of Cooperative Educational Services are offering a College Transition/GED Prep Program once again in 2001. The program gives individuals without a high school diploma the opportunity to work toward their GED - and prepare for enrollment in college.

Classes are held Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursday evenings. In addition to traditional GED subject matter, students learn study skills, note-taking skills, test-taking strategies, time management, and other tools they can use to master classroom content. In addition, students begin preparing for college study by meeting with college advisors and learning about college curricula and career options.

Individuals wishing to learn more about the program should call 345-6999.

The program is ideal for the many residents of the GLOW region who have not completed high school, but who have educational aspirations, said Ramon C. Chaya, Director of Continuing Education. "I have met many adults who regretted not finishing high school," he said. "This program gives them an opportunity not only to finish their high school studies, but to take a step forward and prepare for college study as well."
