Brockport Fire Department officers sworn in

On January 18, Mayor Mary Anne Thorpe administered the Oath of Office to the Chief Officers of the Brockport Fire Department as well as all Company Captains and Lieutenants. Also in attendance were Vice Mayor James E. Whipple, Trustee Norman J. Knapp (Past Chief), Trustee Peter C. DeToy, Sweden Councilmembers Robert Carges and Patricia Connors, and Clarkson Councilman Allan Hoy (Past Assistant Chief).

Gregory B. Wing is the 40th Chief of the Brockport Fire Department. Wing, 32, has been a member of the department since 1987 and served the last two terms as Deputy Chief. Prior to election as a Chief Officer, he served as a Company Officer for eight years, as well as Department Recruit Training Officer during the same period. Wing brings many years of experience training others to the office. As a Dispatcher with the City of Rochester Emergency Communications Department, he is a Certified Instructor through MCC and instructs operations as well at the New York State Police Information Network to new dispatchers. Wing is also certified as a NYS Emergency Medical Technician and is an active member of the Brockport Ambulance Corps.

Christian A. McCullough was elected Deputy Chief. McCullough, 36, joined the department in 1984 and has served as Assistant Chief for the past two years, company Lieutenant, company Captain and Department Recruit Training Officer. McCullough has been a career firefighter with the City of Rochester since 1988 where he attended the Fire Academy to earn the classification of NYS Certified Firefighter. McCullough is currently employed as a career Captain and has attended the First Line Supervisors Training offered by the Fire Department of New York at its academy in New York City. McCullough, also a certified NYS Emergency Medical Technician, is an active member of the Brockport Ambulance Corps.

Mark H. Warner was elected to serve as the Assistant Chief, defeating Captain James Weaver in a close contest. Warner, 41, has been involved in fighting fires since joining in 1981. Warner has participated in the U-Crest Fire Department in the Buffalo area, volunteered for Gates Chili Fire Department, prior to securing his current employment as a career firefighter with Gates. Warner hopes to encourage volunteers to work with the new administration to continue the effort to bring the Brockport Fire Department to the next level.
