Ranger volleyball win on senior day

The Spencerport Rangers girls' varsity volleyball team defeated Greece Athena 15-11, 15-10, 9-15 and 15-4 on senior day January 27.

Junior Kristina Schweikert led the way with 9 kills and 3 aces and junior Kristen Bourne added 5 kills, 14 digs and was the server for 13 of the Rangers' points.

After a relatively easy win in Game One, the Rangers trailed 6-2 before outscoring Athena 13-4 to win Game Two. Greece took over Game Three before Spencerport bounced back with nine unanswered points including two of Schweikert's kills in the final three points of the final game. Head Coach Amy Burbano said after the game, "Kristina has really come along in the second half of the season and is gaining confidence."

Seniors playing in their final home match were Melissa Scroger, Melanie Cornwell, MaryEllen Uschold and Becky Kellerson. Each member of the team presented a family member with a yellow rose before the game to thank them for their support during the year. The Rangers finished the regular season 9-9, 4-6.
