Sweden reassessment notices delayed
Sweden reassessment notices delayed

Town of Sweden residents will receive notification of their new tentative assessments during the first few days of March. Cole, Layer and Trumble, the firm conducting the town-wide reassessment for Sweden, will mail out the notices on March 1, not February 9 as initially planned.

The disclosure notices will tell property owners what their previous assessment was and what their new tentative assessment will be. Any property owner who feels the tentative assessment is incorrect can schedule an informal review with Cole, Layer and Trumble.

The tentative tax roll will be filed May 1. At that time, assessments in dispute will go before the Board of Assessment Review. After that hearing, any unresolved disputes can be taken by the property owner to small claims court.

The first property tax to be affected by the new roll will be the 2001 school tax levy in September. Although Village of Brockport residents will receive village tax bills in June, that tax roll will be based on current assessments, the new assessments will not be used by the village until 2002.
