Fillybean project taps creative talents

DePaul Community Services' clients have rounded up their paintbrushes and creative juices and have started decorating "Fillybean," DePaul's entry for Horses on Parade, a Community Art Project of the High Falls Brewing Company.

The process began last September when life-sized fiberglass horses were made available to local companies and organizations to sponsor. Over 600 designs were then submitted to the Arts and Cultural Council of Greater Rochester for approval. DePaul's entry is a vibrant multi-colored collage of jellybean shapes (hence the name Fillybean) on a bright blue background. DePaul clients, regardless of their artistic abilities, are each painting one of over one hundred "jellybeans" that adorn the horse.

Completed horses will be delivered back to High Falls on March 1 for photographs and promotion. Over 150 horses will then be displayed from May through September throughout the community. Fillybean will reside on DePaul's front lawn at 1931 Buffalo Road. The horses will then be corralled for a live auction with all bids going to benefit local charities.

To help take the "bite" out of the cost of materials, white sweatshirts adorned with Fillybean's image and silk-screened by DePaul's T-Shirt Factory, a not-for-profit affirmative business, are available in a variety of sizes for $20. For information call Gillian Conde at 426-8000 extension 3306.
