Karen J. Kutzer is the new vice president for advancement at SUNY Brockport. As SUNY Brockport's chief development officer, Kutzer reports directly to President Yu and serves as a member of his six-person President's Staff. She will oversee development and alumni relations, and also serve as president of the Brockport College Foundation.

Listed among her credentials, are Kutzer's positions as executive director of corporate programs and The Pitt Ambassadors for the University of Pittsburgh, director of corporate relations for the Pittsburgh Symphony Society, and vice president for the National Center for Professional Development. She was a key member of Pitt's $250 million "Campaign for the Third Century" and the Pittsburgh Symphony's $70 million endowment campaign. Kutzer holds a master of science degree in education from Duquesne University and a bachelor of science degree in education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.


Carrie B. LaDue, daughter of Greg and Gay LaDue of Hamlin, has been named to the fall 2000 dean's list at Keuka College. LaDue a freshman, is studying hospitality management.


Named to the fall 2000 dean's list at Clarkson University are: Megan E. Peters, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Peters, of Spencerport, a junior computer science major; and Michael R. Goodwin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Goodwin, of Hilton, a senior majoring in chemical engineering.


Named as Presidential Scholars at Clarkson University are: Shaina K. Bellis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bellis of Spencerport, a sophomore mechanical engineering major; and Scott J. Ellsworth, son of Ms. Carol Ellsworth of Spencerport, a freshman majoring in marketing and management information systems.


Two area residents have been named to the dean's list for the fall 2000 semester at SUNY Oswego. They are John E. Turbeville of Hamlin, a senior secondary education major; and Sarla M. Mael of Kendall, a sophomore elementary education major.


HSBC will award Gateway Computers to 150 students from across New York state for writing a winning essay about the New York resident they feel has made the biggest difference. Winners in this area include: Ashley Dermody of Spencerport and Kathy Sercy of Hamlin.


As a member of the Lycoming College tour choir, Andrew Woodbridge will spend spring break touring North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, giving concerts in Pinehurst, Lumberton, and Charlotte, North Carolina; Columbia, Bennettsville, and Williston, South Carolina; and in Covington, Georgia. Woodbridge, a junior technical theatre and elementary education major, is a graduate of Spencerport High School. He sings tenor II.


Cassandra Rich, of Brockport, has been named to the fall 2000 dean's list at Wake Forest University. Rich is a senior majoring in chemistry.


William E. Hauck of Spencerport, has been named to the academic dean's list at Milligan College for the fall semester 2000. Hauck, the son of Al and Kacey Hauck of Spencerport, is a senior business and youth ministry major at Milligan. He is involved in the Milligan Soccer program.


Jessica R. Hauck of Spencerport, has been named to the academic dean's list at Milligan College for the fall semester 2000. Hauck the daughter of Al and Kacey Hauck of Spencerport, is a freshman nursing major at Milligan.


Eric Quigley has been an active member of the Hilton Fire Department for four years. He grew up in Dansville, but moved to the village of Hilton in May 1996. He says that is when he decided that he wanted to do something to help out his new community, so he joined the fire department in February 1997 with no previous firefighting or EMS skills. Now he is a driver and medic on the ambulance and is a firefighter as well. He completed his EMT certification in the fall of 1998 and completed the New York State Basic Firefighter class last spring.

Quigley is a full time Tool Crib Supervisor at Gates Albert Inc., a part time dispatcher for the Hilton Parma Fire District and has been an active reservist in the Army National Guard for 16 years. He has been married to wife, Bethany, for six years and is a father to Elena, five years old, and Taran, three years old. Yet he still finds time to volunteer with the Hilton Fire Department. Eric says that is because, after four years, he still enjoys helping his community.


Genesee Community College has named 278 students to the president's list for the fall 2000 semester. Students honored on the president's list have maintained full-time enrollment and earned a quality point index of 3.75 (equivalent to A-) or better. The president's list includes:

Katie Marie Fortner was named to the dean's list for the fall 2000 semester at Indiana University.

She is a junior majoring in elementary eduation and the daughter of Paul and Maureen Fortner of Brockport.


The following student enrolled in Syracuse University's College for Human Development was named to the dean's list for the 2000 fall semester. To qualify for the dean's list, students must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours and earn at least a 3.4 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) during the semester.

Syracuse University seniors from the area have been selected to receive an award as part of the University's Senior Scholarship Program for the 2000-01 academic year.

The Senior Scholarship Program at Syracuse University recognizes outstanding students in their final year at the University. To be eligible for a Senior Scholarship, students must consistently attain dean list status during their first three years at Syracuse.

The students include: Sarah Hogan, Brockport, a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences, received the Joan Barbara Garfinkle Scholarship and Andrew Sayles, Center Road, Kendall, a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences, who received the Gregory Banos Scholarship.


Jennifer Wells, Peach Blossom Road North, Hilton, was named to the fall 2000 dean's list. She is a freshman at Syracuse University in the School of Information Studies.


Army National Guard Pfc. Stephen P. Weiler has graduated from the motor transport operator advanced individual training (AIT) course at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Missouri. Weiler is the son of Wayne D. Weiler of North Chili and Irasema DeLa Torre Kash of Rochester.


Paul and Elaine Crowell, husband and wife team, have both been awarded the Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) Designation by the Council of Residential Specialists, the largest not-for-profit affiliate of the National Association of Realtors.

Realtors who receive the CRS Designation have completed advanced courses and have demonstrated expertise in the field of residential real estate. Only 35,000 realtors nationwide have earned the credential.

Paul and Elaine Crowell are sales associates with RE/MAX First in Rochester. They are members of the Greater Rochester Association of Realtors. Paul is also a member of the Roberts Wesleyan College Board of Trustees and both are contributors to Children's Miracle Network, and members of the Roberts Wesleyan College Board of Reference and active members at Pearce Church. They consistently win top awards locally as well as internationally with RE/MAX. Paul additionally represents the sale of new homes for Wohlers Development Corp. Elaine represents the sale of new homes for Budvale Construction Corporation in the Churchville area.
