RPO to present pops concert at SUNY Brockport

The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Jeff Tyzik, will jump, jive and wail in a RPO pops concert evening of swing Wednesday, March 7. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Tower Fine Arts Center, Holley Street. Tickets cost $10 general, $7 seniors and SUNY Brockport faculty, and $5 for students. Tickets are available at the Tower Fine Arts Center Box Office, 395-ARTS.

In addition to the pops concert, RPO members Erin Hannigan and Scott Stratton are teaching The Soul of the Orchestra, a class for SUNY Brockport students, with open-to-the-public lecture/demonstrations, Mondays at 7:30 p.m., Room 120, Tower Fine Arts Center. The free presentations offer a casual evening of fun and information presented by guest RPO musicians with topics which include: The Role of the Bassoon and Contra-Bassoon in the Orchestra, The Violin is the Orchestra's Soul, Majesties and Mysteries of the "Lower Strings," Drummer's Delight, History with Horns, and The Oboe and the Double Reed. Reservations are not required.
