Our Lady of Mercy High School held its 50th annual National Honor Society (NHS) induction ceremony on February 7 at the Sisters of Mercy Motherhouse Chapel. The following local students were named members of the Catherine McAuley Chapter of NHS: from Churchville - Kathleen McCormick; and from Gates Chili - Jeanette Miraglia and Lisa Stankevich.


Respiratory Therapist Linda McMillion, of Holley, has been named employee of the month at Lakeside Health System. McMillion was cited for her commitment to Lakeside and her willingness to fill in when necessary. In addition to receiving a certificate, McMillion was given a corsage, a gift, a special employee parking space and a certificate for a class from the Wellness Center.


Jennifer Rheinheimer has been named to the fall 2000 dean's list at SUNY Geneseo.


The following students have been named to the SUNY Brockport Athletic-Academic Honor Roll (3.0 gpa or better) for the fall 2000 semester: Greg Dolby of Hamlin, Shawn Hare of Spencerport, Mark Maleski of Hamlin and Amanda Welch of Hilton. Dolby was also named to the SUNYAC All-Academic Team. (3.3 gpa or better).


More than 900 students were named to the Niagara University fall 2000 academic dean's list. To qualify, students must attain a 3.25 academic grade point average for the semester. Local students named to the list include: Ryanne Fullerton, Joseph Nyiri, Julie Szymanowicz and Kayce Kehoe, all of Spencerport.


Rebecca Nau, daughter of Paul and Diane Nau of Churchville, is a member of the Saint Michael's College Liturgical Choir that traveled to New Jersey to sing at Mass at Immaculate Conception Church in Montclair, St. Jerome's Church in East Long Branch, and Saint Dorothea Church in Eatontown. Nau is a sophomore at Saint Michael's College, where she is majoring in French.


Kevin De Coninck Jr., of Spencerport, is a new junior member of the American Angus Association. Junior members of the association are eligible to register cattle in the American Angus Association and take part in Association sponsored shows and other national and regional events.


Jill Lowell of Holley and Megan Kincaid of Spencerport have been named to the fall 2000 dean's list at Binghamton University.


The Statler Foundation of Buffalo has named ten Monroe Community College food service and hotel technology program students to receive the prestigious Statler Scholarship. The recipients were awarded $1,000 each to help pay for the cost of tuition and other expenses relating to their continued education. Local scholarship recipients are: Jennifer Asteff of Greece, Jeremy Lee Balmer of Brockport, Serena B. Clarke of Chili, and Jeanne E. Sexton of Chili.


Erin Kimmerly, daughter of Keith and Marianne Kimmerly of Hilton, has been named to the dean's honor list for academic achievement during the fall 2000 semester at Canisius College.


Lindsay Barton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Barton, Spencerport, is a recipient of the dean's award for academic excellence during the fall 2000 semester at Colgate University, where she is a member of the Class of 2002.

To be eligible for the dean's award, a Colgate student must achieve a 3.30 or higher average while carrying a full course load of four courses per semester.

A 1998 graduate of Spencerport High School, Barton is concentrating in history at Colgate.


Jennifer Leigh Morris of Kendall, a senior at SUNY Geneseo, was named to the dean's list for the fall 2000 semester. She is earning a bachelor of arts degree in psychology.


Jessica Anne Rocco of Kendall, a junior at SUNY Geneseo, was named to the dean's list for the fall 2000 semester.

She is a special education (dual certification) major earning a bachelor of science in education degree.


Shannon Stoll, Wells College Class of 2002 and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Stoll of Hilton, has been named to the 2001 edition of Who's Who Among American Universities and Colleges.

Campus nominating committees and editors of the annual directory have included Stoll based on her academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities, and potential for continued success.


Nadia Marzouk, of Spencerport Road in Spencerport, has been named a 2001 Faculty Scholar at SUNY College at Brockport for her high school academic achievements. Each Faculty Scholar must have a high school average of 88 or higher and an SAT score of 1100 or above (or ACT equivalent), and be ranked in the top 25 percent of her graduating class. She will receive a $703 scholarship to Brockport renewable up to four years.


DeSales University announces the fall 2000 dean's list. Students are named to the dean's list in recognition of academic excellence in their course work and a grade point average of 3.25 or above.

Area students include:
•from Hamlin - Courtney B. Andrews, a dance major
•from Hilton - Amy S. McLean, a medical studies major.


Air Force Capt. Pete S. Lasch has arrived for duty at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio. Lasch is assigned to the Air Force Institute of Technology. He is the son of Roger D. Lasch and Diane Detar of Brockport. In 1997, Lasch received a bachelor's degree from Angelo State University, Texas.


Air Force Airman Randall W. Barton has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and customs and received special training in human relations. Barton is the son of Steven and Nancy Barton of Spencerport and a 1999 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.


Army Pvt. Donald C. McRae has arrived for duty at Schofield Barracks, Oahu, Hawaii. McRae, an infantryman, is the son of Deborah M. Lopa of Rochester.


Marine Corps Pvt. Neil A. Foose, Jr., a 2000 graduate of Spencerport High School, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina.


Air National Guard Airman Noah C. Yousey has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and customs and received special training in human relations. Yousey is the son of Kevin and Linda Yousey of Brockport, a 1991 graduate of Brockport High School, and a 1999 graduate of SUNY Oneonta.


Marine Corps Pvt. Michael J. Schillaci, son of Janice R. and James R. Schillaci of Rochester, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. Schillaci is a 2000 graduate of Gates Chili High School.


The Navy League of the United States, Rochester Council and the Rochester Division of the Naval Sea Cadets honored Hilton resident Patrick Feeks as the "Sea Cadet of the Year." Presenting the award on February 7 was Rear Admiral James D. Hull, USCG, Commander, Ninth Coast Guard District and LCDR Thomas Yokel, US Naval Sea Cadet Corps.

Feeks, a McQuaid Jesuit High School junior, joined the Naval Sea Cadets in October 1997. He completed his Basic Military Requirements in February 1998 and attended Boot Camp in June of that year. In August 1998 Feeks successfully completed the "Aviation Survival Training" program in Manchester, Ohio. In July 1999 he completed the Navy SEAL Orientation program in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Completion of this course entitles him to wear the Sea Cadet SEAL Insignia on his uniform.

Feeks was promoted to Seaman in May of 1999 and advanced to Petty Officer Third Class in January 2000. He again attended and successfully completed the SEAL training program the summer of 2000 and advanced to Petty Officer Second Class in August 2000. In December, he was promoted to Petty Officer First Class (E-6), awarded the Navy League Youth Medal and a certificate of Perfect Attendance at a ceremony before assembled Sea Cadets and their families.
