Hilton Varsity Cheerleaders win Sectional Championship

Hilton High School's Varsity Cheerleading squad earned 335 out of 345 points to take the Section V Division AA Cheerleading Championship February 3 at the Blue Cross Arena.

Competing against seven teams in their division, the Hilton team won their first Sectional Championship following a string of first place championships this season, according to Coach Laurie Miller, teacher at Hilton High School.

Team members are: Christina Bell, Christina Benway, Natalie Burritt, Amanda Conte, Tara Curran, Nicole Dalton, Jamie Delgatti, Tammy Gardner, Catherine Gallagher, Stephanie Gebhard, Crystal Hagan, Carli Harris, Shannon Judd, Jennie Maloney, Terri Mason, Trisha McCormick, Serena Melvin, Shannon Nichols, Emily O'Coin, Becky Ophardt, Ashlie Papalia, Jamie Radford and Randi Roethel. Christina Bell won the Tournament's Leadership award; Jamie Delgatti, Christina Bell and Jamie Radford were named 1st team All-County selections and Nicole Dalton was named 2nd team All-County.

"Their performance was thrilling," said Mrs. Miller. "These are wonderful kids and they have worked extremely hard to prepare for their competitions this year." Hilton's junior varsity squad, coached by Kelly Roethel, has also won numerous championships this season. "The girls themselves choreograph their routines," Roethel said. "From jumps to tumbling passes to cutting the music, they are in charge and take cheerleading to a new level."
