Blue Devils squeak by Pittsford

The Blue Devils were seeded third and were the second highest scoring team in the league. No one told 14th seeded Pittsford though, as the two met in the first round of the playoffs. Scoreless after two periods, the Blue Devils finally got a goal from Craig Willis with just 2:37 left in the game. Brian Abrams added an empty-net goal for a 2-0 win February 14th at SUNY Brockport.

Goaltender Nick Unger made 21 saves in registering the shutout and a second round game with the Greece Lightning February 17 at Genesee Valley.

Tied 2-2 heading into the third period on goals from Casey Balog and Willis, Brockport took a 3-2 lead on Matt Popen's shot from the blueline for the second goal of his career with 2:38 left in regulation. But Greece would get two goals within nineteen seconds - the first on a scramble to the right of the net, the second a deflected shot from the point - to pull out a 4-3 victory.

Head coach Scott Empey talked after the game. "I'm disappointed for the seniors it had to end this way, but I'm especially proud of the way this team pulled together this year. Maybe we took things too lightly after we went ahead so late in the game."

Seniors playing in their final game were Abrams, Chad Hage, P.J. Hart, Jeff Mrowka, Nick Greene and Rich Napierala.
