Bright Raven Gymnasts compete in I Love NY Cup

The Bright Raven Gymnastics girls teams traveled to Binghamton February 10-11 to compete in the "I Love New York Cup" held at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. Hundreds of gymnasts participated in the competition and Bright Raven came home with many top honors.

Bright Raven's Level 6 team brought home the second place team banner with Kerry Apeland of Chili taking first all around (36.225) in the 12 and over age division. Apeland also was first on the uneven bars (9.175), second on beam (9.20) and third on floor (9.25). Jackie VanDeWater of Churchville was third all around (35.85) and Jennifer DeLone of Henrietta was fourth all around (35.80). Amanda Westcott of Brockport placed third on bars (8.95). In the 10-11 age division, Jenna Easton of Churchville took fifth all around (36.25). Other Level 6 gymnasts contributing to the team effort included: Tera Zwirner of Spencerport, Jaclyn Miller of Henrietta, Laura Iafrati of Greece, Sara D'Angio of Pittsford, Kim Golis of Churchville, Larissa Bolalek of Greece and Julie Mingoia of Spencerport.

The Level 4 team also earned the second place banner with Maura Wojak of Chili taking first place in floor exercise (9.425), third place on beam (9.25) and second all around (35.375) in the 9-11 age division. Sherilyn DiRoma of Hilton took sixth all around (34.70). Gina Mattioli of Greece was second on bars (9.00). In the 6-8 age division, Rachel Eckert of Irondequoit was second on beam (9.00). In the 12 and over division, Allison Grove took third all around (33.375) and placed third in three events: bars (8.775), beam (8.95) and vault (7.70). Erin Kolb of Chili was fifth all around (32.15). Other Level 4 team members included: Katie Kisker of Chili, Emily Gutknecht of Rochester, Amanda Arcieri of Chili, Alyssa Kober of Ogden, Kara Golis of Churchville, Brianna Wing of Chili, Danielle Peruzzini of Brockport, Nicole Morone of Churchville, Sarah Berry of Greece, Alyssa Hurlbutt-Mortier of Ogden and Kyle Holly of Chili.

The Level 5 team tied for third place with Martha Bauer of Churchville finishing third all around (34.625) in the 12 and over division also winning a bronze medal in floor exercise (9.00). Kara Contomanolis of Chili earned third on bars (9.30) and sixth all around (34.15). In the 9-11 age division, Amber Kober of Ogden took second place on beam (9.30). Other members of the Bright Raven Level 5 team included: Sabrina Hill of Hamlin, Lindsey Paladino of Chili, Kristen Leh of Chili, Maura Donovan of Chili, Megan Seuffert of Gates, Kelly MacCracken of Greece, Breanna Fischer of Gates and Amanda Clapper of Spencerport.

In the Level 8 competition for gymnasts ages 13-14, Tracy Apeland took second place all around (36.225) and finished third in three events: uneven bars (9.35), balance beam (9.325) and floor exercise (9.075). Brianna D'Errico of Byron took second place in floor exercise (9.125). In the 15 and over division, Amber Mascia of Chili was second on balance beam (9.225) and third all around (34.75).
