Lakeside to host 10th golf classic

This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the Lakeside Golf Classic Tournament. Last year the event raised $17,900 for Lakeside Memorial Hospital renovations and medical equipment.

The Stafford Country Club will again be hosting the event. Stafford recently completed a one million dollar upgrade to its facilities. Changes include a complete redesign of all bunkers on the 6,350 yard course, while maintaining the original concepts by Walter J. Travis, noted course designer and golfer. The changes were supervised by Canadian golf architect, Ian Andrews, who followed the original 1921 course design drawings by Travis.

Prizes will be awarded in the men's, women's and a mixed division. There is more than one way to win at the event as there will be a drawing for free continental U.S. airline tickets, a hole-in-one contest, and a putting contest. Rich Funke of 10 NBC Sports will be the Celebrity Player this year.

The Lakeside Golf Classic will be held Monday, June 11. For more information, call the Lakeside Foundation at 395-6049. The field is limited to 144 players.
