Proposal would put Spencerport village on line

Getting the Village of Spencerport online was the topic last week when WE-MO-CO student Jarod Sevor pitched his plan for a village web page to the board of trustees at their regular monthly meeting Wednesday.

Sevor was at the meeting with his computer information systems teacher, John Simaitis, who told board members his students have successfully designed web pages for other municipalities, including Churchville and Brockport.

Sevor's proposal included pages for village history and a calendar listing sporting events, Town of Ogden and Village of Spencerport meetings and court dates and times. A community page would contain information about businesses and schools, and a village page would have information about village departments, like the Spencerport Volunteer Fire Department, the Ogden Police Department, and the village's water and electric departments, he said.

The website would also contain a "what's new around the village" section that Sevor said would be easy to update. He estimated the cost to the village to be about $500 in labor for his work from March 21 through June 15, $30 a year for use of a domain name, and the use of a computer and software.

Mayor Theodore Walker had questions about the ongoing maintenance of the website. As a junior at BOCES 2 in Spencerport, Sevor told board members he could design the page, get it online and maintain and update it until August. Simaitis said at that point a new student could take over.

Walker thanked Sevor for his presentation. The issue will be discussed at future meetings.
