Stetson grievance to be heard in April

A misconduct complaint filed by the Stetson Club, the union that represents Brockport police officers, will be heard in a Rochester court in April, according to Brockport Village Attorney Roy Heise.

The union filed the complaint in reaction to the village’s newly adopted employee handbook.

According to Heise, the village still does not know what specific complaints the union has against the handbook. "They were given numerous opportunities to share their concerns before the board adopted the handbook," Heise said, "and they chose not to respond to our requests for input."

In other business from the March 5 village board meeting: Department of Public Works Superintendent Fred Perrine reported that work has begun on a new access road to the department’s East Avenue complex. The new access will be from Liberty Street across a vacant lot the village purchased several years ago. Perrine said the new road, which will not be open for public use, will be paved in the spring. The lot will also be landscaped.

Tickets are available at the village office for the annual Community Service Award Banquet to be held April 5 at SUNY Brockport’s Cooper Center. This year’s honoree is Brockport School Superintendent James Fallon. Tickets cost $15.

Parade permits were granted to the SUNY Brockport Student Social Work Organization for its annual Walk For Youth scheduled for April 21 at 10 a.m.; and to local veteran’s organizations for the annual Memorial Day Parade to be held on May 26 at 9:15 a.m.

Village board members remind residents to "adopt" a fire hydrant during times of heavy snow fall. Keeping fire hydrants shoveled out assists fire fighters when answering calls.
