Audrey Erbland of Close Hollow Drive in Hamlin was among the outstanding high school students recognized last month by SUNY Brockport President Paul Yu. Erbland was recognized as a 3-1-3 Program student for having achieved a college grade point average of 3.25 or higher.


Richard J. Kane, FIC, a registered representative in Hilton, ranked second among more than 1,300 Lutheran Brotherhood field force representatives nationwide in the amount of investment products issued in February 2001. Kane is affiliated with the North Coast Agency.


Linda Nutter of Brockport has been named Lakeside's March Employee of the month. Nutter was cited by Margie Adner, Supervisor of the Central Registration Department, for her professionalism, personality and patient concern, Nutter was recognized at a ceremony given in her honor at the hospital recently.

Nutter worked for LHS in the early 1980s, before leaving to accept a position with Blue Cross Blue Shield. Following her retirement from there she came back to LHS where she has worked since March 2000.


At Elmira College Winter Convocation, Rebecca Houghton, a 1999 graduate of Hilton High School, was named a dean's list honor scholar. At a banquet on March 16, Houghton was one of six sophomores given a special award by the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She is the daughter of Randall and Lory Houghton of Hilton.


Emily Rybinski, daughter of Barbara and Daniel Rybinski of Scottsville, has been named to Denison University's fall 2000 dean's list. Rybinski is a 1998 graduate of Wheatland Chili High School and a junior women's studies major.


The following Churchville-Chili graduates have been named to the fall 2000 dean's list at Messiah College: Meredith Beales, Gavin Roach, Christine Mahle and Aaron Faro.


Dorilyn Dennstedt of Rochester has been awarded a $500 "1939 Alumnus Scholarship" by Alfred State College. Dennstedt is slated to graduate in 2001 from Churchville-Chili Central School and intends to enroll in the information technology-web development program.


Fifteen young pianists from the class of Jennifer Sturman of Spencerport performed in the New York State Federation of Music Clubs Festival this year.

All students received superior honors and will be listed on the national honor roll. Students include: Lindsay Knox, Emily Knox, Julie Haring, Kaitlyn Allen, Jamie Snook, Jessica Bartock, Matthew Spezio, Phillip Spezio, Jessica Terrell, David Terrell, Stefanie Tornow, Kimberly Bunker, Kyle Bunker, Mallory Blackburn, and Sarah Stutzman.

Gold trophies for completing three years of Federation with Superior ratings will be awarded this year to Kyle Bunker and Jessica Terrell.

A second gold trophy for completing six years of Federation with Superior ratings will be awarded this year to Matthew Spezio.


Mary Edwards and Andy Smith of the Ogden/Chili Nothnagle office of Nothnagle Realtors have been named as top listers for the month of February. Known as the "Westside Team," Edwards and Smith, who live in Clarkson and Hamlin, respectively, work primarily in western Monroe, Orleans and Genesee counties, where they have successfully been listing and selling real estate for many years.


Air Force Airman Richard C. Poteat has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and customs and received special training in human relations. Poteat is the son of Walter Poteat of North Chili, and Margaret Spink of Batavia. He is a 2000 graduate of Batavia High School.


Army National Guard Pvt. Joy K. Catlin has graduated from the motor transport operator advanced individual training (AIT) course at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Missouri. During the course, the soldier received training in the operation and maintenance of light and heavy military vehicles and instruction in transportation of personnel, equipment, and supplies. Catlin is the daughter of John S. and Mary J. Preston Rochester.


Marine Corps Pfc. Chad C. Arva, son of Doretta A. Arva of Hamlin, and Ronald R. Arva of Holley, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina and was meritoriously promoted to his current rank. Arva successfully completed 12 weeks of training designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally. He is a 2000 graduate of Kendall High School.


Army Pvt. Thomas E. Buzard Jr. has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina. During the training, the soldier received instruction and practice in drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history and traditions. He is the son of Thomas E. and Cheryl Buzard of Kendall and a 2000 graduate of Kendall Junior Senior High School.
