Spencerport Odyssey of the Mind team places fifth in state

A Taylor Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind team placed fifth in the state tournament the weekend of March 17. The team built a structure that held more than 300 pounds. A Spencerport High School team also competed in the state tournament.

The two teams qualified for the state meet based on their first place finishes in the regional competition. The Taylor team placed first in the Division I Achilles' Heel problem. The high school team placed first in the Division III Wild, Winged Wonders problem.

The Taylor team consisted of: Brandon Geer, Michelle Saucke, Michael Goettelman, Kellan Head, Ryan Taylor, Sarah Phillips and Jonathan Powers. The high school team consisted of: Erin Korber, Jeff Sickelco, Aaron Merrian, Stephanie Wolfe, Doug Markant, Sara Olsen and Kathleen Carroll. Eleven teams from the district participated in the regional competition in Fairport earlier in the month.
