Two C-C Middle School teams competed in the regional Odyssey of the Mind competition at Fairport High School on March 3. Odyssey of the Mind is a program open to K-12 students. It teaches creative problem-solving methods by providing open-ended problems for teams to solve.

One C-C team worked on the Ody-SEE-ing Sound problem. The team members used tape, tinker toys, marbles, rice, pennies, and bells to create ten different sound effects in a humorous performance. "It was cool. We got to see a lot of other competitors and their ideas," said team member Kristina Knowles. The other team members are: Sara Morningstar, Katy Villison, Stacey Kmentt, Rachel Reeves and Emily Keidel. Mrs. Knowles was the team's coach.

The other team worked on the Achilles' Heel problem. The students had to build and test a structure made of balsa wood and glue. The structure also had to have a vulnerable spot, an Achilles' Heel. The structure had to support as much weight as possible while being hit in its Achilles' Heel by a team-created vehicle. The structure could weigh no more than 15 grams (the weight of six pennies); it held 207 pounds.
