Heritage Christian Home receives Able To Serve award

Heritage Christian Home has received an Able To Serve grant from Youth Service America to take part in National Youth Service Day (NYSD), a national public service day for youth on April 20-21.

Youth Service America's Able To Serve grants are a $3,000 competitive cash award to individuals and groups to help engage youth with disabilities in NYSD 2001 service projects. Youth Service America awards $2,000 to fund the NYSD project and an additional $1,000 for continuing inclusive service after NYSD 2001.

Heritage's NYSD project is the Sheep Shearing Festival at Springdale Farms, 696 Colby Street in Ogden, on Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. An expected 15-20 youth with disabilities will volunteer at the festival, which is open to the public. Volunteers will greet the public and assist with the sheep shearing and fiber arts demonstrations, children's crafts and petting zoo.

On National Youth Service Day, an expected three million young people across America (ages 5-25) will participate in the largest youth public service day in the world. For information on the Springdale Farm Sheep Shearing Festival or to volunteer, contact Dan Pieters, farm director, at 352-5320.
