Celebrate spring raptor migration

Celebrate the spring raptor migration at Braddock Bay Park in Greece, a site noted for having one of the world's largest spring hawk migrations. The migration should be at its peak through April 22.

Hawk identification classes, banding demos, owl prowls, nature walks, a backyard habitat tour, and a talk on bats are only a few of the activities that are offered. There are no admission charges for events.

Braddock Bay Raptor Research will show its captive birds Sunday, April 15 at 2 p.m. and on Thursday, April 25 at 7 p.m. Ron Walker will bring several of his hawks and owls on Saturday, April 21 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

On Monday, April 16 at 7 p.m., Kathy Barone will lead a talk and walk looking for owls on the bay. On Tuesday, April 17 at 7 p.m., Elizabeth Thompson will discuss bats. On Wednesday, April 18 at 7 p.m., Bill Paterson will talk about the work of The Nature Conservancy in central and western New York state.

Sunday, April 30 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., is the Hawkout, a day of family fun with games for children, live raptors, picnic food for sale, and lots of opportunities for enjoying nature.

Bird of Prey Week is sponsored by Braddock Bay Raptor Research (BBRR), a non-profit group that also sponsors an official hawk watch at the park from March until June every year.
