The Hilton School District Office of Staff Development has released the 153-page Classic Fieldbook: Integrating Technology into the Classroom, Third Edition, a compendium of experiences shared by Hilton teachers and their students illustrating “how staff development, technology, curriculum and assessment come together in the classroom to create positive learning experiences.”

“We invited many people to participate in our Fieldbook series,” Hilton Director of Staff Development Mark Bower said. “Through a Goals 2000 grant distributed by the N.Y.S. Department of Education, our teacher-authors had the opportunity to work together in a technology-supported writing workshop environment to produce this book.”

Editor of the Fieldbook was Hilton’s Director of Learning Through Technology Suzanne Meyer. Seventeen teachers made contributions including “Electronic Literacy Portfolios” by Joyce Gilbert and “English Language Learners Bring Cultural Experiences to the Classroom” by Alicia Van Borssum and Patricia Hogenmiller.

The book demonstrates the dynamic way technology in the form of distance learning; electronic publishing; electronic assessments for music performance; and multi-media performances serve to help students meet higher learning standards everyday in the classroom, that technology is being integrated daily to help teachers teach and students learn. The Fieldbook’s own format includes visuals depicting exactly what the teachers have accomplished in their efforts to extend learning through technology.
