addresses K-6 academic needs

The Hilton School District is gearing up for the third year of the district's Elementary Summer Learning Program for grades K-6 according to Karen Bolinger, assistant principal at Northwood Elementary School, who will serve as principal this summer for the July 23 - August 17 program. Classes will be held at the Quest Elementary School in the West Avenue Building, 225 West Avenue, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. It is a free of charge to Hilton parents, however, no transportation is provided.

"The Elementary Summer Learning Program is designed to support and enrich our kindergarten through grade six students," Bolinger said. "Preference is given to students who are currently receiving academic support services or who performed below the N.Y.S. reference point on state tests. The instructional focus is on reading and writing as well as mathematics communication skills."

All openings in the approximately 380-pupil summer program are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Students who are currently in Hilton kindergarten through grade six classrooms are eligible to apply. Applications are available at each school's main office. The program is free, but parents provide lunch and transportation. It is aligned with Hilton-Parma Recreation's Summer Playground programs. For information, call 392-1000 extension 4522.
