SAREP and DEC team up
for 10th annual Fishing Jamboree

Kids will learn important aquatic ecology principles and have the chance to try fishing on June 2. Finger Lakes Cornell Cooperative Extension 4-H offices and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will hold the tenth annual 4-H Sport fishing and Aquatic Resources Education Program (SAREP) Youth Fishing Jamboree at DEC Region 8 Headquarters, 6274 East Avon Road, Avon. Rotating workshop topics include aquatic sampling, fish ID, knot tying, backyard bass, and fishing safety.

A local 4-H group will vend lunch items. Do not bring bait, it will be provided. Angling equipment will be available for loan. The DEC will waive fishing license requirements for adults supervising youth at the Jamboree. Groups of 6 or more are encouraged to register prior to the event by calling (315) 536-5213.

SAREP is a statewide partnership between DEC, Cornell University's Department of Natural Resources, 4-H and other youth organizations. The purpose of the program is to involve youth in fishing, and through this interest, instill an understanding and appreciation for aquatic ecology, fishery science, and environmental stewardship.
