Host families sought for summer exchange students

Hilton Teacher Nichole LiVecchi is the contact for the NACEL Open Door Program which is currently looking for ten families to host students from Spain or France for three-and-a-half weeks this summer.

The exchange students are from 15 to 19 years-old. Families do not need to be able to speak either French or Spanish, nor necessarily have children of the same age in the home to host a student. All of the students are bilingual in English.

The exchange students are part of a busy program visiting area cultural and recreational resources with Hilton second language teachers. The host family has the opportunity to join in on the fun usually in the afternoons. Last year, students and host families rented vans and visited New York City, according to LiVecchi.

"The teachers teach the kids about our culture and take them on excursions of our city and surrounding areas. The host families see them for a couple of hours during the week and on the weekends," she said. "This is a great opportunity for all to experience, especially if you have children. The dates are from either July 1 - July 27 or July 27 - August 23."
