Holley's Flag Day parade in its 45th year

Playground dedication to follow

Holley Elementary School celebrates Flag Day in a big way. The entire student population, 637 students in kindergarten through fifth-grade, will parade from the school into the village of Holley sporting red, white and blue clothing and carrying banners and flags.

The Ladies' Auxiliary of the Eastern Orleans Memorial Post 202 Veterans of Foreign Wars has donated a flag for each student to carry. When the parade returns to school, a dedication ceremony will be held to commemorate the construction of the school's new playground, which was made possible with donations from local businesses, student fundraisers and volunteer labor. The school band and chorus also will be performing and the Catherine B. Press Citizenship Award will be presented to a fifth-grade boy and girl.

The parade, which is in its 45th year, is an opportunity for students and staff to show pride in the American flag, for school district retirees to visit, and this year, for the district to publicly thank all of the businesses that made the new playground possible.

The parade is scheduled for Thursday, June 14, parade begins at 9:30 a.m. The dedication ceremony begins between 10 and 10:15 a.m. Holley Elementary School is located at 3800 North Main Street, Holley.
