Area youth advance in diamond skills competition

Hamlin Recreation hosted a local competition for the annual Major League Baseball Diamond Skills Competition of Thursday, May 10. Eighteen area youth participated this year. Eight participants qualified to compete at the Sectional level at the Parma Town Hall on Saturday, June 9.

Those advancing in each age group include: Joshua Maier (7-8), Thomas Smith (9-10), Corey Costanzo (9-10), Andrew Lowery (9-10), A.J. Guerrero (11-12), Scott Batty (11-12), Steven Batty (13-14), and Sean Versluis (13-14).

Diamond Skills is a baseball skills competition that allows youngsters to showcase their talents in batting, fielding/throwing and base running with scores determined by individual performances in each skill event. Sectional All-Around Champions become eligible to qualify for the Team Championship, to be held at Shea Stadium.
